check out this article from Chosunilbo, I found it a bit strange. Like a newly manufactured concept ripe for market exploitation or something... or a genuine trend?
Half of Korean Men Say They're 'M-ness' People
Have you heard about the word "M-ness"? This newly-coined term combines the letter M for "men" and ness for "character". The word refers to a new type of man who is different from the stereotypical male who is overly concerned with power and honor.
A survey has found that half of Korean men think of themselves as M-ness people. Some 48 percent of respondents said they are M-ness in a survey of 923 male office workers in their 20s and 30s by job search website JobKorea (www.jobkorea.co.kr).
The result means that half of Korean men think they are active at work and considerate to others at the same time. Interestingly, respondents had different views about M-ness according to the type of workplace.
While 69.2 percent of employees of foreign companies said they are M-ness, only 44.8 percent of workers at small-to-medium size companies said they are M-ness. A JobKorea staffer said, "Generally, the atmosphere in foreign companies is softer than that at other companies. I think that fact played a part in the result."
M-ness people are also active consumers. In the survey, some 45.4 percent of respondents said they spend money on clothes and skin care services. The number of respondents who said they like shopping was 51.9 percent, and some 67.5 percent said they are very interested in raising children and doing housework.
Recently retailers have been trying to attract the M-ness category. Shopping malls have expanded their male products departments and baby goods companies are holding events for fathers to join in. The phenomenon is coinciding with a change in how traditional gender roles are perceived in Korea |

OK. So some 45.4% of men surveyed said they spend money on clothes/skincare services. Doesn't the cheapest guy ever still buy at least 1 piece of clothing and something to wash his face with, even if it does only happen twice a year? Whatever. Surveys are only a small percentage of the population anyways. Tell me what walking, breathing guy or gal NEVER spends money on clothes/skincare? Even the biggest cheapo tightwad has to let go of some of those greenbacks sometime. |

Different from the stereotypical Korean male? Half of them think like this? Pfft! More like half of them SAY they think like this, but really they are still steaotypical males.

Metrosexual is just a new word for the old concept of the "sharp dressed man". |

I think that the bride and the groom should both wear wedding gowns. It's suuuuuuuuch an important thing to the men to get married. It annoys me.
"I want my wife to be thin. I don't care if I die young, as long as I'm married first. I weigh 50 kilos." Fkn pansies. |

Classic!!
I, too, am skeptical of this survey, but not because it didn't poll every single man in Korea. |

I disagree. This reads more like the whole, "Leave the wives to clean the house and raise kids while me and my coworkers go bone hookers" thing is starting to fall out of favor with young Korean guys. The skin care stuff was pretty much an aside.
Considering how the men back home actively participate in the raising of their families, (As presumably the fathers of a lot of the guys here did as well) this should be seen as a positive thing and not dismissed as "gay-boy metroseuxality" |

Sadly, I have no whoremonger demographics to argue it either way. But I was just pointing out that the article didn't come across as it's been portrayed thus far. |

Maybe you can find it on youtube but back in the day Saturday Night Live did a skit where a "macho" man isn't doing so well. The man says that women no longer want phony machismo but instead they want phony sensativity. He then pitches the Alan Alda Guide To Phony Sensativity. |
