Take option one, you get more days, then insist on getting paid in cash for the unused vacation day at the end of your contract. Make sure they understand NOW that that is the deal. |

They are totally going to counter with, "Well, we offered you that day and you didn't want it."
They're the cheapest bastardos I've EVER met. |

Consider yourself lucky, that's what you do. We get a 5 day summer holiday that INCLUDES a saturday and sunday, which I don't work anyway. 3 days. There are lots of us in that boat. At least you can make a plan and get out of this stinkhole for WHOLE WEEK. |

To answer the OP: Yes, you are overreacting. Take option one and ask for the 1 day in cash. Don't do a "Jack Story" and refuse to go for the best option because you've prewritten in your mind the response of the other party. |

Actually, we've already suggested financial compensation and it looked like they didn't even hear it. |

If it looked like they didn't hear it, then they didn't say no. Take that as a yes, put it in writing and give it to them to sign. Write it up as an addendum to your contract. Play nice. It's only June and you've got some time. One day's pay is a small thing that neither side wants to go to war over. Take the initiative and you win. |

DON'T take a vacation day on the last day of your contract. There have been cases where a school may try to say you quit even a day short of the contract end and try to withhold severance and airfare.
A woman I knew in Gunsan took vacation days at the very end of her contract so she could get moved to a new town (inside Korea) and position she had accepted. But the owner said she had quit early and refused to pay her severance and cash equivalent of the airfare she'd have received had she been leaving Korea.
If you need some vacation time toward the end of your contract for whatever reason, make sure you are working on the last day of the contract. |
Yes, this is good advice (sadly). I know of two people who got shafted as in the above example. |
