US media lies too
it's a bit daft to blame either party really, of course the 911 people would cover their backs if it was their fault, same as the korean family will take the side of their family...... |

That's a real tragedy. It's such a shame that the Korean Media can't get the story right.

Lt. Joel Lavender, a Dallas-Fire Rescue spokesman, said since the person was calling from a cellphone and the operator wasn't able to get a location, rescuers could not respond.
"That was the end of it because we didn't have a location to dispatch to," Lt. Lavender said. "It's unfortunate all the way around." |
They did try to find the cell location.

| When the Kims didn't report for work at a maintenance company Tuesday morning, their family knew something was terribly wrong. Authorities were contacted. Police said they drove the route that would have been taken by the couple and did not find the car. |
The family tried to find them by following the expected route.
| Quote: |
Police then contacted the couple's cellphone company, which tracked the cellphone signal to a tower.
Police began searching outward from the cellphone tower and located the car about three-quarters of a mile away about 9 a.m. Wednesday. The car was completely submerged except for an antenna. |
In other words, until they knew WHO the couple was and WHAT cell company they used, they couldn't trace the cell call. This didn't happen until the family notified them that the family was missing. |

jesus christ, you'd think you'd be pretty patient with people lacking english skills if you work for the 911 switchboard, it's probably important |
911 get a lot of prank calls, it is like the boy that cries wolf, every single day |

| As someone who has lived in Dallas before, I can understand how they died, because of the way it can rain there. I am sorry these people died. I am sorry they were hung up on, but if the operator couldn't understand what could he have done? I have no clue. I can't judge the situation, but if you live in a country for 20 years you should learn the language, so you can communicate with the people, interact with them, be part of society, and perhaps save your own skin. |

It reminds me of a poem.
Not Waving But Drowning
Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.
Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.
Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning. |

Korean media morons painting the couple as victims of a heartless 911 operator:
The bereaved family say the husband called 911 on his mobile phone but the operator hung up on him because Kims English was not fluent.

The truth:
Mr. Kim also called 911. But the 911 operator couldn't understand what he was saying. A woman, presumably Mrs. Kim, can be heard screaming in the background. The sound of what appears to be rushing water can also be heard.
The operator repeatedly tried to find out what was wrong with the caller and where he was calling from. "What language are you speaking?" she asked. "Are you speaking Chinese or something?"
But the line went dead before she could get any information. The 911 operator tried to call the man back but got voice mail.

The truth and the Korean media go together like red wine and lugnuts. |
Fricking Koreans and Korean media. Frick 'em !
I heard that on Korean TV news they were reporting on the American beef that was intended for U.S. domestic consumption but got sent to Korea by accident and they were reporting it as "corruption" - saying that the American company had paid a USDA or export control officer to get a false export document, but the heroic and pure, professional Korean government official caught it and revealed the corruption.
Frickers. |

The media just invent nonsense to get attention, ratings, money, people talking. "It was on TV, it was in the paper, must be true!"
People will believe it, though, and throw another log on the fire of xenophobia and anti-Americanism that already burns pretty hot in Korea. |

Korean media is garbage. It is no wonder those poor people believe in fan death and a friendly Uncle KimJI.
These dead people lived in a country for 20 years and couldn't communicate in the language. The are dead because they didn't make effort to fully assimilate. |

The operator did not hang up on them. The cell went dead or was cut off. |

That is really tragic.
Firemen used to have a big problem in multicultural apartment fires because when people panicked they'd revert to their first language. |

For the Korean couple to be rescued the following would have needed to take place:
1. Communicate to the 911 operator exactly what was happening and where the vehicle was located.
2. The police or fire department would have had to find that location in time to see the car before it sank.
3. The police or fire department would have needed time dive into the water, locate the car (in a storm with limited visibility, and no swim goggles), open the doors or break the windows, pull out both of the occupants, swim them to the surface if the water, perform cpr if necessary, then swim them to shore. (Assuming their are at least two people to rescue the two passengers)
For the couple to save themselves the following would have needed to take place:
1. Take off seatbelts.
2. Use an umbrella, wrench or other tool, or anything hard, and break the windows.
3. Swim out of the car.
It was a tragic accident and my condolences to the family. Hopefully something good will come of this and people will be more aware of the dangers of flash floods after this. |

| Would've never have happened had not the Kims gone out looking for a site for their new business venture in HEAVY RAIN. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that you don't go driving for trivial matters in HEAVY RAIN. |
