So they say. I just translated some beef articles, one about Big Mac prices, and one that may tickle the fancy of the burger lovers among us. We'll see how long this really lasts, wasn't it a year ago they tried again and rejected all of it because of like three bone fragments?

http://koreabeat.com/?p=93

Quote:
A representative from Lotte Department said After checking the reactions of people who compared American-made to other kinds of beef we plan to adjust our selling strategy.

A spokesman from an importer of American beef said Even though Lotte Mart and other large manufacturers and distributors will be able from the end of this month to sell American beef, theyve received strong requests, adding that the large American exporters have promised to bring in chilled beef on the 20th.

He also said Still, the first beef to come for testing will be choice grade, equivalent to domestic level 2, not the premium grade, equivalent to domestic level 1″, going on to say we expect that in large stores 100 grams of American beef of that level for back galbi will cost an average of 3,500 won, sirloin will cost 1,200 won, bone galbi will be 2,200, and short ribs will be 2,200.

Here's the Big Mac article. How much does one cost where you live?

http://koreabeat.com/?p=91

Quote:
Considered in US dollar terms, the price of a Big Mac in Korea has grown more expensive and now ranks 13th out of 32 countries.

According to a report in The Economist, a Big Mac, which costs $3.41 for one in the US, is most expensive in New Zealand where it is $5.89. After that come Switzerland ($5.20), Denmark ($5.08), Sweden ($4.80), the EU ($4.17), and Turkey ($3.66). The Korean price of $3.14 is 27 cents cheaper than America. The cheapest place to eat a Big Mac is China, where its just $1.45.

Thank goodness. I've been waiting to hear this ever since the N. American beef was approved by that international food people group (whatever it's called).

Agree, though- is sirloin not considered a good cut here? Although I prefer filets, I usually bought sirloin when cooking at home...

Please keep us updated- I'll be the first in line to buy a decent steak~

Actually according to every dictionary I consulted the words for sirloin and filet are the same. Maybe it should've been translated differently, but regardless, certain cuts of galbi were always on top.

Not that it matters too much, or that I'm finding any fault with your translation (promise! I think it's awesome you translate and post here for us peons) but technically cuts like filets come from the short loin, which is directly next to the sirloin. It is a slightly better cut than the sirloin, simply because it is more tender.

Quote:
Short Loin - the most tender, and the most expensive; from which porterhouse steaks, and filet mignon are cut.
Sirloin - less tender than short loin, but more flavorful.

Prices:

One hundred grams (3.5 ounces) of non-frozen top sirloin sold for 1,550 won ($1.70). The same part from a Korean cow is sold for 6,000 won. Each customer was limited to a purchase of 1 kilogram.

Mixing manure and meat is an old custom in Korea. Black Pork springs ot mind. I am glad to see Koreans handling this maturely. Rolling Eyes

I can't believe these crazy farmers and unions people are allowed to bring in manure into the markets.

I hope that asshole is arrested and forced to eat the manure he brought in.

Can you imagine Americans shitting and pissing on Korean cars and electronics? Rolling Eyes

Hee hee. I was thinking the same thing. Make them eat sh*t. Mind you they already seem full of it so maybe they can't. Wink
It's definitely a violation of the health code. However since it's anti-American they will probably let them go without punishment. Sad

Imagine how you'd feel if for three years (period US beef was kept out of the market) you had the politicians paid off , the consumers of the nation by the b*lls, and raking in huge profits . . . . and then the jig is up. Waaaaaaaaaa ! You'd throw a temper tantrum too, wouldn't you
. . . Well, if you were Korean.

The jig is up, frickers !
