So, if you are on an F Visa, and you don't need a sponsor or letter of release, how do you go about leaving your job?
Do you just hand your boss a 2 week notice? |

If you're being screwed, just pack up and tell them you're leaving after you get paid.
If you're not being screwed, give them 30 days notice. |

Your VISA may not be sponsored by the school, but you are still bound by the terms of the contract you signed. If your contract says 30 days, you must give 30 days. If it says otherwise, follow it. Since you're probably gonna be staying in-country, they could file a lawsuit if you break the contract. It's not probable, but it's a possibility.

If your boss is nice and is not likely to screw you out of your last pay, then give notice.
If your boss is an ass, wait till you get paid and then say good-bye. Walk down the street and find a new job.
Your period of unemployment should be about 30 minutes. |

With F visa you don't have no headaches like the e-2 people. Just get paid and text them saying I don't feel like being F by you guys. But 30 days would be best. But nothing they can really do. and like ttompatz said your unemployment should be about 30 minutes, 45 if stuck in traffic. |

I'm at a public school so would I be "blacklisted" by the school? I want a public school gig in Seoul because SMOE's contract is a lot better than GEPIK's. I've tried to renogtiate with my school, but they are VERY strict and by the book. They say "Its not in the contract so we can't give you anything thats not in there."
SMOE's vacation plus extra vacation for doing camps is just too good to give up. |

| Remember, they really have no control over your employment status as an F2 or F4 so you can do what your conscience will allow you to do...If you are sure never to cross their paths again, take your liberty to do what is in your best interest...However, as others have said 30 days notice is the best route if it can be done amicably... |

Yes, they can blacklist you at their school., They may refuse to re-hire you at the same school. Opps. Like who cares.
If they are nice, then 30 days notice, if they are not, then 30 seconds notice. |

I'm looking at the SMOE application now and there's a question that says "In the past 5 years, have you ever broken a contract. If yes, please explain why?"
I'm gonna check yes, but do you think that will disqualify me for a SMOE position? |

| don't check yes ... would you hire anyone who broke a contract ???probably best to never mention where you worked so they can't call them to verify ... keep it clean ... rather say i am new and this is my first job as opposed to saying i have experience but i broke contract ... lying is bad so make up for it by giving ur current school 30 days notice or until they find another teacher ... |

Haven't your current school broken anything in the contract? I'm sure they have. Make up something.
In that case, you didn't break the contract, they did. So the answer is "NO." |

They did tell me a weekend camp was mandatory when my contract explicitly states that I don't work weekends. I did the camp not wanting to stir things up by refusing. |
