This blew my mind. A kindergardener, five or so, didn't bring his pencil to class (a class consisting of only him). So I handed him the one off the floor. He refused to use it. I asked him why. While he started spouting Korean at me I figured it was something along the lines of 'it's dirty'. Then I heard it - pink-u. What?

I raced to my Korean coworker and asked her just what the hell was going on. She seemed unphased and coolly replied that young Korean kids and older, ajossi-aged men don't like pink becuz it's feminine. Trying to contain myself I inquired about all the men wearing pink shirts, that sea of pink I wallow thru everyday of my life in Korea. She said it's an age thing; young and old don't like pink but those in the middle do and even flaunt it. I was baffled and had to sit down. She went on to say that when they get older they won't like pink again, reverting back viewing it as something simply for women. According to her, it's not generational, but age related. Korean males, in general, won't wear pink, then wear it and then not wear it. That's when everything went black.

I always tease the boys who have pink pencils and pink pencil cases....

AFTER that - my boy-students refuse to touch anything pink....

My students are like that too. I have a box of pink and blue scissors. The boys will fall over each other to avoid getting the pink handled scissors. I like to use it as a punishment tactic. The noisest boy gets the pink scissors.

Well, some of my kindy boys wear pink shirts. When i tell them their shirts are nice, they don't seem to mind.

The in-between aged males wear pink to emulate the princesses to receive acceptance. They see the hollier than though female's actions and speech and copy them in order to feel that they are closer to marriage.

Then they jerk off.

Good for those kindergartners. The last thing some boys here needs is more encouragement to dress like some androgynous flamer. I wonder what Nork refugees think when they see state of masculinity in this country? Probably just shake their head and wished they launched a second war and won.

All my students are picky as hell about what pencil they use. If you force a pencil on them they don't like, then they hate you. The pencil you give them is never good enough, even if it is the best pencil. It drives me nuts.

These are kids. I stayed away from anything pink when I was in elementary school.

Is this really an issue?

Go to any kids/baby store anywhere. What color is the stuff for girls and what color is the stuff for boys???

Also, people who wear pink shirts are made fun of. It amazes that an entire University Campus wears pink shirts. This campus is the University of Virginia. Here is what a UVa guy wears:

2 collared shirts, because just 1 isn't enough. Both collars popped up and the outer shirt is pink. In order to be "cool and hip" they will wear sandals (most likely Birkenstock) no matter what the weather is.

If you think only Koreans wear pink shirts, I dare any of you to go to Charlottesville, Virginia and step onto the campus of UVa.
