Hi again.
One thing i dislike about Oedae's curriculum, is that you have to call each of your students, and have a telephone 'conversation' with them every Wednesday night.
It's like trying to pull out teeth.
Maybe things have changed, but it was part of the deal a couple years ago. |

Hello Eye!
I read your scary post about your first trip to Korea with Oedae - Mancheon Dong, it isn't the same school is it?
Is the tie wearing in class still order of the day?
The director and the recruiters (kimnjoe) have promised emails of the American and Canadian teachers working there at present so the red flags are not flying... yet! |

No, it isn't the same branch. I don't know anything about that one, but it's good that you have some questions to ask teachers there. |

I work for another Oedae in Daegu and we don't have to call students at home. I find my working conditions very pleasant (though I've only been here 2 weeks). I was a teacher in the US, and I blogged about my initial impressions of the curriculum we're using, which is from the chain--generally positive.
Every branch is different though. Talk to foreign teachers past and present. |

Cheers folks,
I had the phone inteview today and it went well (or I think I did!) The nice lady on the phone said she was going to discuss my application/phone interview with her boss and they were going to phone me again.
I don't know if it is standard procedure.
I have read everything about the Korean job process and kimnjoe are the best recruiters around according to many on here. so I'm sure the Buk gu school is a good 'un!
I'm checking out your blog SS81! |

I just had a phone interview with the head teacher at the Oedae in Hwamyeong-dong (near Busan). Good luck with yours, and may it turn out not to be a dud. |

I hope it went allright. Lets us know how it went.
I got the job but the director wants me to come out mid november.
I think it is the Korean way of saying 'thanks but no thanks'
Its not like I have a strong regional accent and the lady on the phone said as much but she did say that North American teachers are more ideal than teachers from England.
I know there are Brits out there working, does it take a smidgen longer to get a job if you are English than if you are from the North American continent? |

I'll give you the heads-up once I know more. I let the recruiter know I need a job ASAP (I need to be back in time for my sister's wedding next September), so hopefully they wouldn't hook me up with a school that would do the same.
I doubt that they were flat-out rejecting you. I've talked to several people from England and Australia who are working out there (though none of them *so far* at an Oedae school... Hmmm...)
Best of luck finding another position that'll treat you well, and be careful. |

It's not just your accent, my friend. I didn't get a job with Oedae, either, and I have the middle-America non-accent. I wonder if they just don't want to hire ASAP any more. o.0
I get the feeling many more opportunities would open up if I were willing to teach Kindy. . |
