Meanwhile back in Israel:
An Education Ministry superintendent has pushed for Scientology literature to be taught in schools in Kiryat Shmona.

Isn't the only difference between Scientology and the orthodox churches just a matter of degree in how upfront they are about being a scam?
I can accept the state banning a specific religious behavior (tossing virgins into volcanoes) but not the idea of banning a whole religion. Freedom of conscience means letting me believe in something just as stupid as what you believe in. |

I'm no fan of organised religion but I think scientology is much more dangerous. They operate like a cult, breaking someones personality down and basically taking all their money. You have to pay to go up the levels and attain new knowledge whereas you can basically walk into a church anywhere.
They also have dangerous beliefs about mental illnesses although i suppose that could be compared to the catholic condom thing..
Anyway the way they consume people totally into their cult and extract their money would make them more dangerous in my eyes.
They also have some disturbing practices which are outlined on this page below.

They've physically restrained people from leaving the grounds, once resulting in someone's death (sick and starved). Don't know how often that happens at a convent. Plus the equipment they use, the E-meter, to measure (audit) your 'spiritual distress' is such crap. Even people who answer all the 'correct' answers have been told they need spiritual counseling. I'm sure there's comparable things that happen in other religions but that's the basis of suckering people into their religion. |

I think it is a fine line but it is one that scientology crosses. They strip the life and assets from its members. i don't think you can say the same things about most mainstream religions. |
