I'm coming next week. Any suggestions on where (anywhere in Asia) to go during that period for a reasonable amount of money? Thanks so much for your replies!

We're going to Taiwan for Chuseok with Eva Air and it's 407,000won pretty good ofr this time. I originally wanted to go to Singapore but tickets are ridiculously expensive if u can even get on a waiting list. |

You are aware that you CANNOT get a re-entry permit until you have your ARC and that leaving on holiday without one will void your E2 visa (unless you are American - they have multi-entry visas).
Or did you mean a trip INSIDE Korea? |

I have my ARC and am an American. But I won't be able to afford to leave the country for this holiday, as I didn't get here until the 21st, so I'm only being paid for the 8 days I worked in August. So, in-country suggestions are welcome. |

Last Chuseok, I went with friends to Damyang, an area about 2 hours south of Seoul on the west coast. It's 'known' for its bamboo forests, bamboo rice, bamboo wine... etc. We stayed at a place called Damyang Resort, which was really lovely with good hiking in the area. I don't have links anymore, but if you search around you can probably find it. |

My husband and I are facing the Chusak question now. We'll probably stay in country, but would like to fly out if it's not cost prohibitive. I tried that "whypaymore" site, but it was all in Korean, and I didn't see an English option. Did I miss it?
Before giving me a hard time for not being able to read the Hongul, please know that we've only been here for 3 weeks. I can decode the text, but don't have the vocabulary to figure out what I'm reading. laugh. |

I've been wondering if any last minute deals tend to come up for Chuseok. I know I'm pretty much screwed for tickets right now, but if I wait til a few days before and just take what I can get, will I have any better luck?
I guess the visas might be an issue depending on the country? |

After the person posted about having gone to Damyang in Korea (couple of hours south of Seoul), I did some research, and though there's not a TON of information about it, there is some. And, it sounds like a really neat place to go. There's the national bamboo museum, which has the history, etc. of bamboo (unfortunately all in Korean), but it also has examples of the many, many products that are made or can be made of bamboo. You can evidently buy some of these products in Damyang. I don't know if I can afford to stay at the resort, though it sounds lovely (there's an internet special at 15% off - you could get a friend to translate the site for you and make your reservations). But I do know that I'm planning on going at least for one day, because it's a beautiful time of the year to travel in Korea (or just about anywhere), and I figure I can get all my Christmas shopping done in one place which features cool products and reasonable prices. |

You could always get a gang of people together and go ATV'ing in Gangwon-do.
The cabin would be 70,000 and sleeps up to seven people. Cheap and great fun!
Pm me if you are interested and I'll send you the details.

Regarding Damyang or any other bamboo forest: make sure you douse yourself with the strongest bug repellant you can find. Me and my friends got devoured by skeeters in Damyang in late September last year. And I recently sustained a half dozen painful bites after only 10 minutes in another bamboo forest, and that's despite using a DEET product. |

Thanks for the great advice about mosquitoes. Where can I buy a DEET based product in Ulsan? Thanks. |
