Firstly, I am purely non tech, embarassingly so (lol)..hoping for an easy solution to this. Last night and agian this morning neither Yahoo nor goole (among others) would load up....it was transferring me to starware (whatever that is) but then I got the page cannot be displayed blurb. It's Windows XP if that helps. Any suggestions anybody?

Cheers

You have spyware on your computer. Run a cleaner (like spybot or something equivalent if you have it) or just format it.

You can try the same scanners(Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, CCleaner) after booting into safe-mode. Make sure your virus scanner and firewall are up-to-date. Also wouldn't hurt to have BHODemon and SpywareBlaster installed. Also wouldn't hurt to use Firefox(or other) instead of IE.

Or, you can format.

Or, you can try this place...

http://www.cybertechhelp.com/

They're a bit slow, but they've helped me a couple of times when I had some nasties and rathered not format.

Don't format for a piece of spyware thats like using a hammer to kill an ant. Run

adaware
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007/3000-8022_4-10731194.html?tag=lst-0-2

spybot
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/1200-2023_4-5157428.html?tag=antispy

ccleaner
http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144_4-10720990.html?tag=lst-0-1

make sure you have an upto date antiviral
several good free ones such as avg (i use as my main one), avast (backup), nod32.

stop using internet explorer and use either opera (i use) or firefox
http://www.download.com/Opera/3000-2356_4-10726200.html?tag=lst-0-1
http://www.download.com/Mozilla-Firefox/3000-2356_4-10744221.html?tag=lst-0-4

and above all be careful of what you put on your computer

if the above don't work run them while in safemode (click several times/hold down f8 while your computer is booting up).

Luckily, blackjack provided the links. ^^

However, it is highly recommended that you format it. Spyware is not just a single entity on your computer, especially since the majority contain hidden registry editors and startup scripts that cannot be identified with standard anti-spyware programs. While the use of such programs will help you, you will find yourself back in the same position again and at a rather quick pace at that.

Helps also to run your spyware cleaner in safe mode.
