Are there teacher age restrictions in the public schools in Korea? Rumor is going around that it is 40 - which would be silly as many places are looking for teachers right now. True or False? |

In Seoul public schools, that's false. |

False in Gyeongsangnam-do too. Never pay attention to rumors. |

In my experience and from what I've heard, it's harder to get hired at a Seoul public school if you're 50+. (I have a CELTA but no previous teaching experience.) In fact, if I remember correctly, some ads for public school positons mentioned a cut-off age, which may have been 40.
In Incheon, however, there are many public school teachers over 50. |

false in gyeonggi do. The teacher I've replaced was over 50. The NT in the next town over is also over 50. |

Public policy is to retire ALL teachers at 62.
To the OP: the rumor is NOT true. I know many foreign teachers in the public school system who are over 50. |

No, you can be hired as a teacher in a Seoul public school when you're over 50. However, you can expect everyone (colleagues/co-teachers/kids etc) to make a big deal over it. |
