| Would 'The Rock' be called fat? |

I'm called fat on a fairly regular basis by my students, and even a co-worker once. I'm 6'1 and about 200 lbs, or 184 cm and 90 kilograms. I'm pretty active, work out regularly, etc, and have no beer-belly whatsoever.
I'm just wondering, are muscles and broad shoulders such an alien thing here in Korea that anything other than stick figure=fat? Or, is it just that some Koreans, given limited English ability say fat when they mean big or athletic?
Also, perhaps in an effort to boost my damaged ego, I'd like responses to the poll question. He's taller, but also weighs significantly more than I.
BTW, I'm not saying I look like him, but I'm trying to get a good idea of the general definition of 'fat' in Korea. |

I had a kid call me fat once. My response was "So what? I'm cute and I get paid to be here. Your parents make you come here and you look like Neville Longbottom." The rest of the kids laughed at him and said "Teacher is cute! Your English name Neville!"
I was entertained and the kid kept his rude comments to himself after that. |

I'm 90kg at 179cm. Not one of my 1600+ students have ever called me fat. I get 'teacher, body good' regularly. Never been called fat.
Maybe your kid's are just fucked up. Or perhaps there's something about you that Koreans associate with being fat, even though you aren't. |

Weird. I dunno most of the other teachers at my school are somewhat shorter, and in some cases rail-thin, so maybe the students are comparing me to them? |

Kids, who call each other names need to be called on it. I even have some dumbass kids point to other student and say 'Teacher, he is pig' as if they expect me to agree??!!
If that happens I either get the four nearest boys around the name caller to punch him a few times or tell him he has an ugly/big face.
I really hate catty name calling. Even more than kids not bringing a pen to class. |

I learned that "pig" and "piggy" aren't as derogatory as back home. Koreans like pigs, they think they are cute. The put pigs heads outside of new business and on graves out of respect. They do associate pigs with fat kids, but it's not as bad as it seems. I even had one teacher say "she's a little piggy" about a girl with the girl right there. The girl said "no, teacher is a piggy!" and they both laughed. |

Fair enough point. But there is nothing cute about middle school boys calling a clinically obese boy 'pig'.
I have a girl call her friend a 'stupid lesbian' the other day. Now, from middle schoolers, THAT was cute  |

maybe a better question...why does anyone care about dwayne "the rock" johnson
does anyone know if there is a korean work for "stocky" or "burly"? i just think fat gets used a lot because it's easy and everyone knows it |

The Rock is a very cool guy.
His interview with Rove when he came to Australia was great. |
