No advice whatsoever.

Just say you're there to listen anytime.

Yeah, seriously, depending on how long they were together before your friend got dumped, they'll probably just want to talk alot... one potential problem, as a dumpee, is that you can wear out your friends as you talk their ears off and bore them to death... but thems the breaks.

silence is golden.

Thief! Now I KNOW who stole my book of cliches and idiotic idioms on that dark and dreary night! And all this time I thought it was Butlerian when he came over to wipe the dribble off my toilet seat with that purple herpes-infected thing of his between those pus-stained bloody lips he calls a tongue.

This one won't help him. He is an attractive man who has had his good share of fishes. But this little fish was a special little fish, and he is old enough to know these kinds of fish don't swim by so often. That may be part of the pain.

Attention grammar Nazis: yes fish is the plural of fish but so is fishes. So there. Evil or Very Mad

I find the only way to over come heart break is simply find a new partner. Heart break should be old ground for an adult male. As a friend you need to go out with him, listen to him, etc. Although if it begins to stretch into months, then you need to stop molly coddling him and cowboy him up. If he's still moaning about his lost love after 3 months, he's crossing into wussy territory. You need to start telling him gently then more strongly, "get over her, you're not the only person on the planet to lose a chick. Other's survive."

If the heart broken one is a woman tell her to fill that hole in her heart with lots and lots or random sex with all takers: one night stands, two guys at once, etc, etc. This will make her feel loved.

If its a guy he should just find the homeliest, most pathetic, hungry for love woman he can find. Date her and throw her away. This will boost his ego and give him a sense of vengeance on all women.

Even the praying mantis, that eats the cicada, must watch out not to be eaten by the birds (from an ancient Chinese proverb).

The pain is mostly from confusion and not understanding why. Once you figure stuff out, its a lot easier.

Did she give him any sort of explanation? Does he know the underlying reasons for the situation?

Tell him it's ok to wallow. Therapeutic even.
Then a few weeks from now remind him there are a couple of billion women on this planet.
