Service staff at Incheon International Airport yesterday essentially killed a 48-year-old American man who�d collapsed in the airport�s baggage terminal when they prevented emergency rescue personnel dispatched from the airport fire station from entering the arrival concourse.
A witness said emergency personnel tried to enter the arrival concourse to assist the man, who�d stopped breathing, but were blocked by staff who told them they could not. A scuffle ensued for over five minutes, after which emergency staff entered through another way. Unfortunately, by the time they reached the American, he was already dead.
Airport service staff, meanwhile, blamed the rescue personnel for not properly explaining the situation at hand. The airport itself also blamed the rescue personnel.

I often wondered what would happen if you needed help while in an airport or worse, while on a plane.
Well, there you have it on the ground.
There should be no reason for all this confusion and gridlock over security issues. |

If this happened to a Korean at say, Newark or LAX it would be all over the news, people would already be chopping their fingers off, and I would have to listen to USA bad all day from the kids. That said, I'm sure half a dozen Koreans die from the very same ineptitude each day. How anything gets accomplished here I'll never know. |

| Was it some 60 year old ajosshi guard who blocked them while he was sorting airport recycling. I can totally picture that. He's given like one command. Don't let anyone enter here - and he takes it totally literally with no exceptions. |

| Yesterday I had to order a book as a prize for one of my students on gmarket. It was Harry Potter's new one. I asked my secretary to find it. She couldn't. I had to walk her through Internet shopping on gmarket, where she was ready to give up because they only had the set for 50,000. I had to suggest alternatives like Naver or Kyobo, and to explain to her that you could actually buy one book, not just a 6 book set. Just completely did not want to use the gray matter in her head. Sometimes Koreans are like robots, they can find the answer, but ask them to think, and they draw a blank. |
