UCC Capturing Scene of Corporal Punishment by Teacher

A video of a high school teacher in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, harshly beating students with a bamboo sword has been released on the Internet and is creating a controversy.

This 38-second video is spreading across Internet UCC (user-created content) sites under titles such as 'Student Corporal Punishment Incident at H High School, Jeonju'.

In this video, which appears to have been filmed secretly by a student with a cell phone, there are images of the teacher using a bamboo sword to wildly beat parts of the body such as the buttocks and heads of two students lying face down in the hallway.

Another scene shows one student, unable to bear the punishment, standing up, whereupon the teacher follows him and continues to assault him.

The Internet user who posted the video explained, "He punished the students physically because they had been absent from supplementary lessons on a day that the school inspector visited."

The response of Internet users who have seen the video is that the teacher's punishment was excessive.

One user left replies stating that, "No matter how much the student may have made a mistake, the punishment in the video contains emotion and is at a severe level," and that, "This isn't punishment, it's battery."

Another user left a post saying, "I can't believe there are still teachers who beat students so barbarously in this day and age."

In response, an official from H High School stated, "We are very sorry that there is a controversy occurring as the punishment that occurred in the middle of this month spreads through the Internet", and said that "The school itself held a meeting of the personnel committee and decided the give the teacher in question a warning, and the teacher apologized to the punished student and all of the students in the class."

The teacher later said that he had simply been giving a lesson about Mexican culture, and wanted to show all of the students how Mexican children used a pinata during Fiestas.

I couldn't find no such video, but I do know that Korean teachers do strike children, though I have never seen any real pain or injury involved.

I don't touch children since it is not my place to hit someone else's kids and definitely not in foreign country nor even America.
