After been here for nearly 2 weeks I have finally secured a job.
However hmmmm?
It is a hagwon and they want me to start on Monday. The director assures me that I do not have to go to Japan on the visa run for a month or so as they need to get all the docs together including the visa issue number. Is this correct. |

He wants you to work illegally. It is illegal for you to work until you have the Visa in your passport.
And for a month? Sounds like he wants to give you a trial run first...and then if you don't work out just fire you and he doesn't have to pay you a dime.
Tell him no go. |

It is illegal but if you feel secure that they are being truthful with you, you could ask for them to pay you weekly until you're legit. |

If immigration came to your place and found you working on a tourist visa, I'm pretty sure you'd be in deep trouble. I don't think that there is a magic "one-month-or-so" window where you can legally work on a tourist visa.
The other thing to consider is that, if current rumors turn out to be true, you may have to go a little further than Japan for your visa. |

Nope. Illegal.
If your new boss objects just ask him to come down to immigration with you to ask. |

I'm not saying you should trust the director, but my last two jobs I worked for a month and two weeks, respectively, on a tourist visa before all the paperwork went thru. It's common but leaves you open to getting burnt more easily. |

I'm not saying it isn't common.
I'm just saying it's illegal. |

People have been doing it for years, usually with no problem, but those new regulations go into effect in mid-December. No one can say with any confidence what situation that puts the OP in. |

i wouldn't do it.
u have to ask yourself, if my director is so ready to have me work illegally for a month and put my head on the chopping block if immi does any inspections (like they did for degrees a while ago), what makes me think that he won't do further illegal things that may fu<k me over later?
there are enough jobs here, u don't need to resort to a job that seems dodgy |

I'm not telling you whether or not to do it. I'm just going to point out another way your boss could screw you. If you get the visa a month in, that means when you're done your year technically according to the contract and labour, you've only done 11 months. Opens you up to non-payment of severance or airfare. No papertrail to help you.
After 2 years here, I've learned to check, double-check, cluster-check and then take pictures of everything. Do you like gambling? |

Be careful.
Get paid weekly. Don't listen to, "Don't you trust me?"
Also, like others have been saying, new regulations might be implemented soon. Very soon. Possibly before he intends to send you on a visa run. That could create a big problem.
Anyway, there's no valid reason for him not sending you on a visa run now, so I'd stick with that.
Tell him he'd better send you now. Now or later, it's the same thing. You'll still have to miss at least one or two days of teaching at one point. This hanging on until later doesn't make sense when you think about it. Mommy and daddy should understand that Mr. Waegook needs to go out of the country and back in order for him to be legit and able to teach the little ones for a whole year. I think owners tend to blow it all out of proportion, however I guess the parents can get a little picky. I don't think missing a couple of days of classes has much of an effect on anything. Something you'll have to do anyway. |

Nope. I don't need a sock to bash a hakwon who is requesting someone to do something illegal.
I'll do it openly.
He just beat me to it.

Don't do it.
Get a good job.
Get your visa before you begin working.
Do it before Dec 15th when the new rules (might) kick in. |
