|
|
I have been searching, seriously, for about 2 hours, and have been unable to find much about how someone from the UK should go about getting a CRC. The CRB in the UK will give records to businesses, but they have to have special applications...and some other nonsense I can't work out.
I'm not English, but my husband is, and I am trying to find a way to get this check for him without us having to go back to the UK.
I can just mail away for mine...thanks fellow Yanks who posted loads of info on how to do it...but how the *@#$! do we do his?
Any other UK citizens out there?
Thanks. |

You can apply through this agency. Don't worry about their association with Scotland; they deal with the whole of the UK. I have applied through this outfit. You can do it via mail from South Korea.

I have heard that the Disclosure Scotland will only cover you for working in the UK, to work overseas and get a visa you need a subject access report. http://www.met.police.uk/information/info_about_you.htm
I got my form from the police station, it costs 10 and you need two forms of ID, one of which must show your current address. You can also download the form and post your application away. Here's a list of UK constabularies http://www.met.police.uk/links/index.htm, look up the one relevant to you.
It takes up to 40 days for the result to come in, then up to a further 4 weeks for it to be apostilled, so I'm majorly peeved it looks like I'll not get to Korea for the start of March for the new term starting. |

So for those of us already in Korea, we can print the form and post it without having to go back to the UK? |

Reading the link xanderspuppy provided, you can get someone to take the CRC to the office in London and get it apostilled same-day.
I just spoke to the police (data protection dept) and they said cautions are shown on Subject Access reports until you become 100 years old!
Technically, having a caution isn't a criminal offence, but how would Korean authorities deal with it?
I don't know if the Basic Disclosure shows cautions. xanderspuppy, are you sure Korean immi wouldn't accept an appostiled Basic Disclosure? |

Not 100% sure, no. I can't remember now where I read it mentioned for UK people to get a subject access report, I'd never heard of it before and already have 3 Disclosure Scotland certificates (not less than 3 months old though). I tried the site's FAQ and could only see this: http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/FAQ49x.htm relating to working overseas. I guess the best people to ask would be the Korean immigration people in the UK - good luck with that, I didn't much sense from them. The Disclosure Scotland people would probably be more helpful. |

Seems like it.
Found this thread too: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=106360 seems the Basic was previously sufficient, whether or not it is now who knows? The Basic Disclosure is a little more expensive but looks like it comes through more quickly. |

Subject access doesn't show any cautions
Basic Disclosure doesn't show any cautions.
Neither do.
Cautions are not convictions.
If you wen't through the courts and it's less than x years old it will show up. If it's older than x years it won't
If you get an enhanced disclosure CRB check or a the next level up from Disclosure Scotland it WILL show up cautions and any notes that the police have on your file. You will not see those notes only the organization or school applying would see those notes.
This thread has been done again and again.
I would suggest that the mods create a sub forum with criminal background checks and how to get them for each country
Bare in mind that IF immigration decide that they want the enhanced level or next level up from basic disclosure you are not going to be able to get it yourself.
Not sure how people are going to get around that. There are umbrella companies out there that will do it for you - costs about 40 quid. |

What if you do have a past conviction?
I'm a Brit and have been considering teaching in korea for a while now but I have a drink drive conviction from six years ago which I understand stays on record for 10/11 years.
I know these aren't exactly the crimes the authorities are looking for but nevertheless, am I going to find opportunities hard to come by? |

I'm wondering the same thing. I have a conviction too which is completely unrelated to my job and, to the best of my knowledge, is not a crime in Korea. I guess time will tell. |
