I cannot disagree with that about self-determination. Freedom is more tricky. To paraphrase Rousseau, most people bind themselves in shackles.
I think this move for self-reliance by the Lakota may turn out for the best. But they'll need US co-operation and investment from the private sector. |

Hmm...Why has there been little media focused on it? Probably because no one really regards it as being anything significant.
I foresee a Southpark episode related to this in the not so distant future... |

Self determinism is one thing, but you are talking about ethnic or cultural "self" determination. Which isn't really self, but collective. That assumes a coherent collective and a whole lot of other stuff.
This is a bargaining ploy by them to get more from the Feds. The negotiations will be quiet and it will go away. |

I don't necessarily agree with your conclusion, but wouldn't it be collective? Isn't a tribe, or any small scale democracy, collectivist? If all the members of the unit decide to accept what is best for the unit as a whole, that is both individual and collective determinism. |

You don't seem to know what a red herring is. Perhaps you should consult your dictionary. |

Actually, I think 'tis you that should. You would be a great Republican, what with your red herring tendencies. |
