Because assertions and queries are two totally different things.
Moreover, you're questioning moderator policy, and if I do recall the rules correctly, that's not something you're supposed to do in public. Other members have had their posts summarily deleted for less intentional attacks than you're making here, so I suggest to take it to PMs with Lemon if you really care to continue this debate. Otherwise, all you're trying to do is rally people up for dissent in something that I find quite trivial. It's also disrupting panthermodern's thread.
We moderate a message board on the internet. Is is really that holy? I'll be damned if it feels that way. |

I had a big long response, but I deleted it. I like Zyz's more. Good to repeat the "it's just a message board" mantra. |

For the record, I disagree with what Austin is saying, but ...

Oi. That's a little heavy handed. May I ask why we can't discuss 'moderator policy' in public? |

This is my take on it.. there are 10 mods.. occassionally they see something thats going a little crazy between one of the many little feuds going around.. if it gets too out of hand.. they have a committee and pull or block the thread.. case closed.
As far as mods taking sides and joining on one side or another of a 'feud'.. I highly doubt it. Who wants to get involved and take sides.. nobody.
Think of it like this.. we're all in a bar. Your regular customer JOE starts arguing with BILLY who comes to the bar too.. but not as often. They start to argue.. Joe wants to knock his lights out. Okay, the bartender knows Joe, right? So does he say yeah Joe lets kick this guys ass. No, the bartender says 'get the hell out of my bar' and take it elsewhere, case closed. Bartenders (or mods) don't tolerate any fighting in the bar even if its their best friend trying to start the fight. |

because the mod policy is uber-gay. they are beyond criticism. it's all very uncanadian, if you ask me. |

Mods take criticism all the time - that's pretty much what we're here for ... the silence you speak of is the sound of denz being able to say what he likes without being edited or deleted.
Keep trying, guys ... if his comment had been struck, we're the uber-nazis. If mods come around and dispute him, we're bullies. If the opinion is left to stand here on the board with no comment from us ... um, it proves he's right?
(Bobster scratches his head, ponders.)

The silence I was refering too was on the part of the moderators. I still haven't heard anyone give a reason for discussing board policy in public.
Just a note: I have no problems with the way the board is run. I'm just interested in the lack of discusion. |

You mean "for", or "against"? |

Neither 'for' or 'against'.
Why is it against the rules to discuss board policy? |

What is there to discuss? The admins make a judgement call loosely based on guidelines set, but mostly on their gut reaction. |

Sounds like this thread is an open invitation for you to discuss, Paji eh Wong, and trust me, Lemon's got plenty to say on that current mod criticisms issue. Ask away. |

I don't think this moderation thing is a science.
It seems to me the mods deal with situations in a way that takes into consideration the intentions of wayward posters, not necessarily what is actually said.
For example, some posters may notice that Beckerson, or Denz, (just examples guys, don't go nuts about this) step over the line here and there. So, why aren't they banned?
I think it's because Beckerson and Denz agree, mostly, how this forum is moderated. They have accepted the rules of the game.
If you don't like this game, find another one.
(P.S. Beckerson and Denz are purely examples ) |
