I just saw this article from the New York Times magazine section about the benefits of play for children and adults too and I couldn't help but think of how badly some of my students need to just experience some unstructured, creative play. I wish one of the Korean newspapers would do a story on this and bring the issue of overstressed students into the collective consciousness of the country. If there could be an article that dumbed down the content to a more accessible grammar and vocab, it wouldn't hurt  |

I read the article and as I understood it, it said the purpose and benefits of play are largely unknown and speculative. |

I've worked with Korean adults for about 10 of the last 12 years and as far as I can tell, they haven't suffered permanent damage from not being able to play from 3:30 to bedtime. Many of them expressed a wish that they could have, but they seem well-adjusted creative people in spite of not having had the free time we did. |
