HP, and I speak from experience.

The only laptops I have owned were made by compaq (I said HP because HP bought compaq). I never had a problem with them despite a lot of negative sentiments towards them.

Very good aftersales on my missus Compaq even though it came from Thailand

Still would buy IBM/Lenovo - 1 years insurance and three years warranty on Thinkpads.

You need to fix your poll.
HP and Compaq should be combined and LG and Xnote should be combined.

Thinkpad hands down. Thinkpads are workhorses. I put my T40 through hell and its still working like new.

I have a Dell and I won't ever buy anything from that company ever again.

Thinkpads are definitely workhorses.

I really like Fujitsu and Sony laptops too.

My HP is still chuggin' along. They have far too much crapware loaded on, however, and speed suffers as a result.

The HP printer I bought has a lot of features, but the driver set is horrible (and has screwed up my ability to hibernate). I didn't realize how bad things were until I read about similar problems others had on CNET.com. I then started realizing all of the same bugs, which had appeared since I got the printer.

I had a compaq that lasted four years but eventually failed on the power socket connection - a common fault.

It didn't wear well though. Looked four years old.

Nice thing with IBM is that they don't age cause they all look the same

I don't need blue LED's or touch sensitive volume controls.

Give me a decent keyboard and those hard wearing hinges anytime

Agreed. A laptop should be small (12" or smaller) and rugged. It doesn't need to be flashy and pretty.
