Well, I already have an E-2 visa. My old contract ended so I guess what I'm really getting is an extension and changing my workplace. Since it's before March 15th and I already had the visa getting an apostille stamp wasn't necessary. Sorry, I don't have information on getting the stamp at this time.

Actually, I think some guy that used to work for immigrations once said in an article he wrote a while back during all that huff about the new regulations that immigrations would accept it .

if you were just renewing your visa and it was before the 15th you didnt even need a CRC.

Your state's Crime Bureau will have a person in charge of issuing official criminal background checks for the state. This is the one that Korean immigration wants.

An FBI is not necessary and takes several months so is not practical.

There are numerous companies that provide these services, but many are not worth the paper on which they are written.

Google the state in which you live for the Crime Bureau and then telephone them. Download the proper form and fill it out with a fingerprint included. Request that it be "certified" which means it will be stamped by a notary.

Once you've received this you will need to send it to the Secretary of State of the same state for an Apostille. Again google for this office and telephone. The application will be online.

All of this will take two to three weeks and will be official and look appropriately so.

Upon arrival in Korea expect to go to a hospital for all of the blood and urine tests and a perfunctory physical exam($80.00 + transportation for me...).

You'll need two photos for the visa application when your signed contract is first mailed to the school, one photo for the Consulate for your application there, two more for the physical examination and another two for the next step which is applying for your Alien Registration Card at immigration here in Korea.

Just finished the process and now have my Visa.

All I did, for the criminal background check, was go to the nearest city and request a "clearance check" at the records dept of the pd. This took less than 24 hours. I picked that up and went to the state capitol for the apostille and, not including the drive, that took all of 30 minutes (make sure you expedite it). You can get this done in less than two days. Worked for me anyhow.

If this is your last step in the documentation phase where you are about to send all your stuff to Korea for the Visa issuance number, you can, for a price, send all your documentation International Priority (fedex) right from the Secretary of State's office. Took 3 days to arrive in Korea.
