| What I hear from other Koreans is that we are such excellent drivers. But in other parts of the world, Asians are usually considered bad drivers. Who is right? |

| When Koreans learn what seatbelts and red lights are for, we can discuss this seriously. |

The best!
Red Lights - screw em!
Pedestrians - screw em!
Other cars - screw em!
Being courteous - screw it!
Hanson once wrote something about Korean drivers here. It was a perfect description of just how insane it is. |

You have to put things into perspective. Generally they're terrible compared to British drivers, but at least they're less likely - on the whole - to develop road rage and start fighting after a slight issue. With the exception of Japan, look at the countries around Korea that Koreans typically go to.
China? No better than Korea on the whole and it can certainly be much more dangerous avoiding traffic in parts of China.
The Philippines/Thailand? Can be pretty rough out there too. |

I voted yes, because I think Koreans have better driving skills than we do.
They may not follow road rules, but most korean drivers I know are far better at:
- Squeezing through tiny gaps at speed
- Aggressive driving eg. pushing into a gap/not letting others into a gap
- Driving through small winding alleys
- Parking in awkward places
- Not getting irritated by trafic conditions, or by being in close proximity to other cars. Most of us get frazzled way too easily, whereas Koreans just take it in their stride and drive on.
We can't impose our standards of safe driving on them anyway, as they simply don't know any better. They haven't had it drummed into them to wear seatbelts from birth, and running red lights is normal. |

Well, what I meant was Koreans' driving skills, not following the traffic rules. We all know Koreans take the red light as a sign for 'step on the gas.' I think if we have the police patrol the road every now and then people will follow the rules a little bit more. |

Right on Newbie.
Haven't you ever noticed yourself saying "Look at that maniac!" after just having blew a red light yourself?
Come on now people! We all know it is okay to do these things just as long as no one is cutting in front of us and WE are the ones doing the cutting off and stuff...
Yes, I can be the biggest a-hole driver and it's normal in this country. I love it. Back home, I would be arrested every day for driving to endanger.
However, here in Korea, if I am really being especially aggressive (which is more than half the time) I simply leave my flashers on.
The flashers (supposedly) tell other drivers "Please excuse my bad driving manners"

Koreans have excellent pavement driving skills.
They are also excellent at driving and watching incar TV at the same time. |
