Speaking of which ...why are there so many Canadians here ?
It's just I never noticed canada until I came to korea. Now if one doesn't keep their wits about , going by all the Canadians here and references to Canada, they might get the false impression it's some important place you should care about. |

I was going to compare him to Cyclotouriste who foresaw 9/11, but they'd definitely be in good company together.
Actually, Cyclotouriste was freakier, but this guy seems more successful.
The Asia-Pacific bureau chief of Forbes? The next finance minister of Japan? He certainly does sound more harmful than Cyclotouriste. |
Who's Cyclotouriste? |
Lonely Planet Thorn Tree forums a few years ago...2003 maybe? Caused quite a stir, hilarious stuff, too good to be a troll. I think his name was John Shaw, or the foggy memory of an old man is getting the best of me. |
John Gobin Shaw. He taught in Korea for a few years in the '90s, where he educated his adult students with diagrams about how two airplanes could be used to take down the Twin Towers. Somehow he knew about the plans for the attack years before they happened, although nobody remembers him ever mentioning anything. Then he moved back to the US where he made an effort to contact the authorities to warn them of 9/11, but it was more of a "Ha ha, I know something you don't know..." kind of warning.
Then he went in search of a female companion to go cycling with, and things started to get bizarre.
The original thread has been released, but he bowed out of the conversation after telling everyone he was glad 9/11 happened.

And you just remember this too you bastard. I am the guy who
found out in detail about the plans to attack the WTC, the
pentagon, and the US Capitol on or around 9-11-01.
I have a book in the making right now, and part of it
is on the internet.
The fact is that even if 9-11 had been nuclear, I still would not have warned you bastards
well enough so that you could have done anything to prevent it.

That was Mohammed Ali in Its Happening.
It's Happening used to be so infested with trolls. It was like a train wreck. |

I watched the second video of the bunch. (the first seems to be a short version of the second)
Not sure what to make of this guy. Some of the stuff he says about Japanese education being dumbed down so that people are unable to argue.... As if it's just in Japan.
This stuff seems to have happened all over Asia (especially Korea) but it seems a common trait of most Confucian societies.
There are many who would argue that the same thing has happened or is happening in the West as well.
Some of his comments about the Japanese view of Western society and government institutions seem about on par for what most westerners feel about their Asian counterparts.
Anyway, some of his comments about the Chinese nuclear capabilities seemed to make sense. |

Got anything to back that up? |

Of course the guy didn't uncover plans for 9/11. He's just delusional, and remembering events wrong.
Unfortunately the original thread and the guy's resume are no longer online, aside from excerpts which I read when they were new.
This is one excerpt from his resume:
| Quote: |
| In 1997, while teaching at a college in South Korea, I discovered plans to attack the World Trade Center and the pentagon using commandeered, fuel-laden aircraft, and had told well over 100 people about it in detail in the years before it happened. Of this last statement I do have evidence and proof. My international experiences are more than stated here. |
You can read the whole cover letter here, where he talks about being at the release of American hostages in Iran, meeting Barbara Bush and Jimmy Carter, and surviving a train disaster.

Let me repeat this part of his original threats, which he posted on a Lonely Planet message board.

And you can read his manuscript here, where he seems to have posted as recently as 2005.

Man, I remember this guy . John Gobin Shaw went totally wacho on me. I didn't believe what he was saying and he flooded my mesage box with crazy crap. Sometimes I am not very kind when I post and he took it way too seriously. I have strict rules. I don't mess with:
1: Crazy people (John Gobin Shaw)
2: Drunk People
3: Religious Fanatics (could also be Korean Apologists )
---All three kinds of people will kill for nothing. |

Has a lot to do with welfare cutbacks and changes to unemployment insurence. Canada is no longer the generous welfare state it used to be. |
