Wow, hell needs a bigger budget.

Go against the word of god and end up in a realm of stock footage and bad cgi. Or worse you could end up here:

Don't worry, it's going to get a lot better!

And from one of Mr Hale's favourite bands:

Have you ever thought about your soul - can it be saved?
Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave
Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you?
Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?

When you think about death do you lose your breath or
Do you keep your cool?
Would you like to see the pope on the end of a rope
Do you think he's a fool?
Well I have seen the truth, yes I've seen the light and I've changed my ways
And I'll be prepared when youre lonely and scared at the end of our days

Could it be youre afraid of what your friends might say
If they knew you believe in God above?
They should realize before they criticize
That God is the only way to love

Is your mind so small that you have to fall
In with the pack wherever they run
Will you still sneer when death is near
And say they may as well worship the sun?

I think it was true it was people like you that crucified Christ
I think it is sad the opinion you had was the only one voiced
Will you be so sure when your day is near, say you dont believe?
You had the chance but you turned it down, now you can't retrieve

Perhaps you'll think before you say that God is dead and gone
Open your eyes, just realize that he's the one
The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate
Or will you still jeer at all you hear? Yes! I think it's too late.

That's an extremely well-written song and of course the music is excellent as all Black Sabbath's first 6 albums are, but it's horribly unsophisticated from the perspective of morality. As such, I see no reason at all to stop serving Mighty Lucifer at this stage. Mr. Green

XTC nailed it:

XTC wrote:
And all the world is biscuit shaped.
It's all for me to feed my face.
Trying to take this all in.
I've got one, two, three, four, five,
Senses working overtime

So too did Dr Faustus:

Christopher Marlowe wrote:
Nature that framd us of four elements,
Warring within our breasts for regiment,
Doth teach us all to have aspiring minds

The XTC song is always pleasant to hear, but nothing on the level of the excellent Sabbath.

This one also fits the theme of your thread, though I doubt you'll heed its message, you wicked heathen, you!

Quote:
You're searching for your mind, don't know where to start
Cant find the key to fit the lock on your heart
You think you know but you are never quite sure
Your soul is ill but you will not find a cure.

Your world was made for you by someone above
But you choose evil ways instead of love.
You made me master of the world where you exist
The soul I took from you was not even missed.

Lord of this world
Evil possessor
Lord of this world
He's your confessor now!

You think you're innocent you've nothing to fear
You don't know me you say but isnt it clear?
You turn to me in all your worldly greed and pride.
But will you turn to me when its your turn to die?

Big Bird,

those two songs - After Forever and Lord of this World are both off of the Into the Void album and I assume Ozzy was going through a religious phase at the time. Elsewhere, Ozzy serves Mighty Lucifer with his drug-use, promiscuity, alcoholism and totally blasphemous horror movie-style Rock. Again though, whilst Ozzy's lyrics are well-written, they do rather display his working class (downright poor) origins in Birmingham and lack of education. You're presumably just being jolly with your Sabbath songs rather than advocating theism, but I just thought I'd say.

I love it! Laughing Again, though apparently serious, you make the reader laugh his or her ass off. However, I must ask....is the devil doing God's work by whupping sinners' asses? Or does God disaprove? This is important. According to scripture, the devil punishes in accordance with God's sentence to Hell, but it's totally unclear how Satan can be a rebel of God if he punishes in accordance with God's wishes. Surely, logically, Hell must be full of sex, drugs and rock and roll - in other words, reward for 'sin' - rather than suffering and punishment?

Ozzy had nothing to do with it, as far as I know. He probably choked on the lyrics, the first time he had to sing them. I believe it was Tony Iommi (the guitarist) who wrote them. Could be wrong though - other posters are welcome to correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually, I think modern interpretations of the bible say that the burning in hellfire stuff is a load of old cobblers. God lets you die, then on judgement day, if you've been good and minded your manners, you're allowed to wake up again and have some fun, but if you've been a naughty buggeer, you have to stay sleeping in your grave.

I was under the impression Ozzy wrote all the lyrics, but I'm not sure either. Whoever wrote them displays natural articulacy - a great thing - yet lack of education and complete misunderstanding of reality - a bad thing.

Modern interpretations of the Bible are as risible as they are erroneous and, according to true Christians like the Westboro Baptist Church who take the scripture entirely literally as one ought (since by what standards does one cherry pick the Bible?), are gonna see the adherent wind up in Hell with Mighty Lucifer, me and Heavy Metal.

We'll have to check that one out then. I am 99% sure that Iommi was responsible for those particular lyrics though.

Actually, I didn't make myself very clear. Scholars have gone back and looked at earlier translations (remember the bible was translated into this language then from that language to that language and from that the next and so on) and now reckon it to be a misunderstanding on behalf of earlier translaters.

It'd be great to see - from a fan's perspective - who wrote those lyrics, but it remains the case that the author had severe misunderstandings about the cosmos and the evolution of life on Earth - thanks to their poor upbringing and lack of education.

As for the mistranslations of the Bible, develop your point!

Did i miss something? The poll asks if one serves Lucifer. I voted yes, how does that save me from frying? What perspective are we coming from? A vote for Jesus saves me from hell or a vote for Satan gets me in his good books so he doesn't fry me up too bad once I'm down there?

Thanks for the Master of Reality info. Also, let's see Under the sun from Black Sabbath Vol 4:

Black Sabbath wrote:
Well I don't want no jesus freak to tell me what it's all about
No black magician telling me to cut my soul out
Don't believe in violence, I don't even believe in your peace
I've opened the door now; my mind has been released

Well I don't want no preacher telling me about the god in thesky
No I don't want no one to tell me where I'm gonna go when I die
I wanna live my life; I don't want people telling me what to do
I just believe in myself, 'cause no one else is true

Every day just comes and goes
Life is one big overdose
People try to ruinte
I can see through their frustration

People hiding their real face
Keep on running their rat race
The ante is risen once a week
In their world of make-believe

So believe what I tell you, it's the only way to fight in theend
Just believe in yourself, you know you really shouldn't have topretend
Don't let those empty people try and interfere with your mind
Just live your life and leave them all behind

Regarding the Bible, it doesn't appear to matter, since it's absolute hooey from start to finish what ever! Laughing

Well, that one is the one I can better imagine Mr Hale singing (most probably drunkenly) in the shower, yes.

Vol 4, one of my favourites. I'll have to dig that out (CDs have been hidden from my hooligan offspring) this weekend. Now I have a real fancy to hear Supernaut and Snowblind - again and again, played up at volume 11!
