1. How much is Birth Control, I use Seasonique where you don't get your period for 3 months. The pharmiscist will not let me get more than 6 months, is this kind of BC available in SK

2. Will my hair dryer and straightner work in SK? ( it is 125V)

3. how expensive are pedicures/manicures?

Sorry, sort of trivial... but I am packing toiletries and was wondering?

thanks

You can buy a current transformer at most hardware stores for about twenty bucks so that you can use your dryer and flatiron, or you can buy new when you arrive.

pedis cost about 20-25k, and manis about 10-15, depending on where you go.

You can actually use any kind of birth control like Seasonique, it's the exact same as the other stuff except for the three month packaging.

I use Mercilon because I researched it before coming over and it contains almost the exact same amount of stuff (hormones) as Marvelon my pill at home. You don't need a prescription for BC here so you can take it however you want.

I second the Mercilon. I take it the way you'd take Seasonique - 3 packs in a row. No complications.

Depending on what pharmacy you get it at, it generally goes for 4500-7000 won. (About $4.50 to $7.00 USD). The pharmacies will usually sell me a few boxes at a time if I ask. I have a friend who visited about a dozen pharmacies here before she left to go back to the States and bought a large grocery bag's worth of birth control, as it's so cheap here.

By the way ladies, while we're (kinda) on the subject, I have two words for you all: Diva cup. Changed my life. I ordered it through www.lunapads.com

Here's something I wish someone had told me and how could anyone have known- take Monostat or some other similar cure.

Throat infections are pretty common around here, so antibiotics are prescribed a lot. A lot of antibiotics means all of your body's natural bacteria are fried. That means a hell of a lot of yeast infections for some people.

The local family doctor does not prescribe for yeast infections, they will send you to an obstetrician. That would be difficult to find for a person who does not read or speak Korean, though likely your doctor will refer you to someone (still bloody hard to find).

To the best of my knowledge there is nothing available over the counter in Korea- if you have a yeast infection you'll have to do the whole damn painful examination process to gain access to some medication.

I know it's gross, but it's better to hear it now and be prepared.

Actually, the pharmacy I go to will give me yeast infection supplies right over the counter, and I imagine others will, too. You can ask for "Canesten." They have both the cream and the suppository. If you have communication issues you can probably mime the cream, but the word for suppository in Korean is "좌약" "jwa yak."

My pharmacist told me one suppository a day, preferably at night so that you're lying down and it can do its work.

Okay, I propose a ban on all female related posts that have to do with their bodily functions. If 유범삭 (is that even close?) can get a thread deleted for saying the F-word, I want no more talk of menstruation.

Period.

That's because someone will eventually ask how to use one of those gorram floor toilets, and I want to hear the answer. I hate running home between classes if I get a hold of some bad tui gim.

I had no idea about that. Here they are charging me $40 dollars per month for the seasonique, so for 3 months its $120. My insurance provider doesn't cover special BC. I'll just skip my sugar pills so I don't get my flow and buy generic BC in Korea, its so cheap!!! Yeah!!
Wow, this was really helpful!!

And Tarkaan I was wondering if you knew where I could buy some feminie products, you know, for that feminine itch and do they sell super tampons as my flow is very heavy. lol Smile I warned you on the thread.. women questions, you chose to read!!!

It's all good, I like going into the women's restroom from time to time.
