1. How much is Birth Control, I use Seasonique where you don't get your period for 3 months. The pharmiscist will not let me get more than 6 months, is this kind of BC available in SK

2. Will my hair dryer and straightner work in SK? ( it is 125V)

3. how expensive are pedicures/manicures?

You can actually use any kind of birth control like Seasonique, it's the exact same as the other stuff except for the three month packaging.

I use Mercilon because I researched it before coming over and it contains almost the exact same amount of stuff (hormones) as Marvelon my pill at home. You don't need a prescription for BC here so you can take it however you want.

I second the Mercilon. I take it the way you'd take Seasonique - 3 packs in a row. No complications.

Depending on what pharmacy you get it at, it generally goes for 4500-7000 won. (About $4.50 to $7.00 USD). The pharmacies will usually sell me a few boxes at a time if I ask. I have a friend who visited about a dozen pharmacies here before she left to go back to the States and bought a large grocery bag's worth of birth control, as it's so cheap here.

Here's something I wish someone had told me and how could anyone have known- take Monostat or some other similar cure.

Throat infections are pretty common around here, so antibiotics are prescribed a lot. A lot of antibiotics means all of your body's natural bacteria are fried. That means a hell of a lot of yeast infections for some people.

The local family doctor does not prescribe for yeast infections, they will send you to an obstetrician. That would be difficult to find for a person who does not read or speak Korean, though likely your doctor will refer you to someone (still bloody hard to find).

To the best of my knowledge there is nothing available over the counter in Korea- if you have a yeast infection you'll have to do the whole damn painful examination process to gain access to some medication.

I know it's gross, but it's better to hear it now and be prepared.

Actually, the pharmacy I go to will give me yeast infection supplies right over the counter, and I imagine others will, too. You can ask for "Canesten." They have both the cream and the suppository. If you have communication issues you can probably mime the cream, but the word for suppository in Korean is "좌약" "jwa yak."

My pharmacist told me one suppository a day, preferably at night so that you're lying down and it can do its work.
