Or since you are in Korea you could stop being so cheap and lazy and pay the 1-2,000 won rental fee...
I can understand downloading western flicks while in Korea, but it is faster to just pay and get a good quality dvd at the rental place then d!ck around looking for subbed korean flicks on the net. |

Except that the ones at th rental place are not subbed.
Try "Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter." |

Anything by Lee Chang Dong and Hong Sang Soo is worth a look. Especially The Day A Pig Fell Into the Well, Peppermint Candy and Oasis.
Also, Memories of Murder, Memento Mori, Once Upon a Time in High School, Friend, Host, My Sassy Girl, Secret Sunshine.... I could go on and on..
You've hit the mother lode. Korea is one of the world's great, yet largely unrecognised, film making nations. |

The "English subtitles" part is the tough part.
The "You no say yes, maybe, why are you lightbulb?" stuff is pretty bad. |

My favorites are "My Sassy Girl" and "Classic". We just saw "once upon a time in Korea" and it was good.
I also enjoyed "My wife is a gangster" , just the first 2.
On a subtitle note, most DVD's you can rent have the option for English subtitles. Look on the back of the display box, on the bottom it should list available languages.
"My Sassy Girl" has the best subtitles ever! The often subtitled facial expressions! And at one point there is a gun fight with machine guns, and the subtitle says "Sound of guns firing.Bang bang." Too much fun! |
