At my public school, there's one teacher who is quite old and 'stupid'.
Sometimes when I'm in the toilet, he enters, does what is required, leaves the toilet, and turns off the lights, even though I'm still in there, flushing the toilet to make it obvious he is not the only person there.
The switches for the light and fan are outside the entrance to the toilet.
Today, I came out of a toilet stall and we greeted each other. He then began to explain, I must keep the window open and not use the light or fan when in the toilet. Even though it is quite dark in there without using the lights.
He was trying to demonstrate he has the right to tell me how to use the bathroom.
Anyway, I nodded and mumured my agreement. He began to use the urinal.
I washed my hands, exited the bathroom and turned on all of the light switches and the fan.
I hope he now knows what empathy is. |

His English isn't that good. I don't think he would be able to answer it.
Every teacher that uses the bathroom, use different things according to what they like.
It seemed he was saying 'this is how I want things done, so keep it that way'.
I suppose putting the fan and lights on was a cultural misunderstanding on my part. |

Next time he does that wait for him to use the toilet and close all the windows and turn on the fan. |

This same teacher recently began to tap on my toilet door while inside. He deliberately speaks some English in a very childish way and giggles, I ignore him usually, but on Friday I kind of laughed at him and asked him if he likes talking to people in toilets, I'm sure he didn't understand.
So, on Friday just before leaving work as I walk past him on the stairs I wave to him ultra-patronizingly and say 'Anyonnnggg' loudly, like you'd say to a kid.
He grinned but looked a bit surprised. Aren't Koreans wonderful colleagues? |

He obviously thinks you're going to suffocate from fan death. You might want to warn him that children have been flushing their pet crocodiles down the toilet and some of them are now full grown and hungry. You can also tell him you woke up after a one night stand in a bathtub with one kidney removed and " Welcome to the world of aids", was written in lipstick on the mirror. |

I have a question about batroom "etiquette".
why am I supposed to put my shit stained toilet paper in a bag, along with all the other shit stained toilet paper? (although kept clean and sanitary at my school, the bag still gives me the heevie jeevies.
I've been to countries where the septic systems cannot handle the paper , so the lines get clogged up... but I would think this is NOT an issue in Korea? (or is it?)
btw.. I am fortunate that out of the 6 or so stalls in the teacher's bathroom, there is one seat. (the others are squat into a hole) |

In older buildings it is actually the case. It's mainly the old folk doing it.
Irks me though. |

Feel lucky. One of the schools I teach at has glorified latrines. They're not even attached to the building. |

It's just a matter of time before that toilet goes out of order. When it does I can guarentee 100% it won't get fixed. The stall will be converted into a storage area. and you'll have to resort to using squats. |

Why don't you hang about in the bog and have a chat with him the next time he comes in. Or bring a book and a cup of coffee, ask him to leave the light on-you're reading. |

Perhaps he is advocating.......Conserving energy?!
If you were a blind person.....it would not matter......perhaps you should learn to see in the dark?
Still...this person has no right to instruct you in the ways of......dumping.....koreans do it to each other everyday! |
