|
|
I have been through these forums and through websites all over.
There is a lot of conflicting stories of success about this.
I am yet to find definitive information on how to get a CBC from the USA whilst living in Korea quickly and legitimately.
The FBI is one option but the time it takes to get one is too long.
Online checks are not accepted.
Has anyone successfully obtained a CBC whilst living in Korea from the USA without using the FBI?
Canada, UK, NZ, AUSTRALIA and SA I know..so please...just USA.
Thanks |

I have. From two different states.
Each state has different processes. Some require notarized permission forms, some don't.
If you get it in Korea, you will have to go to the embassy to get it notarized. I would bring them in the sealed envelope just to be safe for notary purposes. |

back stateside I had to get one done. the company I used was in NY and did international business I believe. it cost 325 bucks I think, but had everything done in a week.
when your state takes at least 2-4 months farting around with state police checks done in minutes elsewhere, and then the same time getting the apostilization done, its a good deal! I am not near my computer with the info, but can get it if you like later today or tomorrow |

You must be rich or hard up for a job. Did they reimburse you for that expense? I know I would not pay it!! |

Wrong.
Online criminal background checks from US government agencies are accepted. Online checks from private firms (.com) are not accepted.
Again: An online check from an official government (state) agency in the US, accompanied by your signed affidavid from the US Embassy in Seoul, is acceptable to Korean Immigration for renewing your E2 visa from Korea. |

| I got my state check done online. I just went to my state police website, typed in the info, paid $25 bucks, and it was done. Simple. They give you the option of having it emailed, or sent via postal mail. I did both just to see if there was a difference. The postal mail one looked a little more professional and had a bit more information so I used that. I had both of them done from right here in Korea though. |

| Dang it looks like I'm s.o.l with California. Ok so can I get my fingerprints taken here in Korea and then send them/fax them to my family to get it ordered? Do I have to include a signed permission slip? Good advice will be appreciated. Thanks. |

Also Aussiekimchi.....start with a phone call to your local police department.
It does help to know someone on the force...and some local PD's in various places do not perform this service...but I'd start with a phone call to them to see what they can do.
I did mine this way...granted, my father is a city official, and I played on the same little league team for four years with the police chief's son...but I made contact with the deputy chief, that didn't know me from "Joe," and they finalized it....wrote a cover letter for me...for a minimal charge in less than a week.
They mailed it to my folks...my folks mailed it to me.
Otherwise...check with your state police, State Department of Justice, or State Department of Public Safety.
Usually, most of these agencies can be contacted via the net...and in many cases...the CBC process can be initiated from the net.
With freedom of information laws being more liberal these days...many states allow any individual to perform a background check on any second individual with a minimal amount of information and payment. Usually, name and D.O.B.
Go local and state before you go federal.
Good luck. |

Whats this please in light of this from the US embassy site:
The U.S. Embassy in South Korea does not provide a records check or fingerprinting service, nor can the Embassy authenticate records checks or health certificates.

Actually...yeah, Colorado is easy and cheap, $6.95, BUT it's not a very "professional looking" check, no logos or signatures, or contact info on it. Looks like something I could have typed up in Word using all caps. I just ordered mine yesterday, and am a little worried going to the Embassy/Immi with it. |
