My school has a two week summer camp and the head teacher asked us for ideas. Honestly I have never taught summer camp before so I don't have any ideas. I was thinking it would be fun to have a singing class simply because its fun and rarely do kids get to have fun in English. That said I think my school is more academically minded. Any ideas?
I would appreciate any help.

One more thing: Has anyone ever assigned a film project--Have the students write, produce, and star in their own movie? I'm toying with this idea but have never done it before and really wouldn't know where to start...

I remember a couple of years ago at TESOL a French teacher had her students make mini-movies, each under 5 minutes. Come to think of it, she also had them make commercials.

Maybe I could show some commercials in class from YouTube and have them translate them and act them out for the class in English on one day, then the second day have them prepare their own commercials to perform for the camera. What do you think?

I never get the movies and skits approach. They are just the same useless kids in summer freak out mode. They ain't capable of much.

I understand these camps to be like English villages where you role play simulated situations such as being in an airport, restaurant, bank, etc. It appears quite obvious and self explanatory on what to say and do if this is the case. I used to do these sorts of lessons in a hagwon and some props and visual aids help tremendously.

Just what is a Summer camp? I know it's rare for it to be a real camping situation as I hear of them being from 9:00AM to 12:00 noon. Is it fishing, canoing, hiking, roasting kimchee over a fire, singing songs, and telling ghost stories? All in English to teach them English as it's applied to these situations?

All my experience with the camps is with elementary age. They are a bit of a joke a lot of the time. A few cruddy lessons and activities dressed up as a "camp". And some teachers who want to do "drama skits" until they actually meet the hyperactive kids.
