Here is an interview with the translator:

Of course, her superiors insist on blaming her. However, she still refuses to take this abuse lying down. Good for her.

PD Diary producers and Jeong traded criticism yesterday. PD Diary posted its position on its homepage, saying It is hard to understand her argument that linking a downer cow and mad cow disease is a distortion. The program was overseen by the PD Diary team leader and the concerned producer. What Jeong argued was outside her expertise as an English translator.
Jeong quickly objected.
It takes no expert to know that it was too much to link a downer cow to mad cow disease, she wrote in an e-mail interview with the JoongAng Ilbo. |

PD Notebook also refuted Jeongs claim through its message board Thursday, saying her argument is beyond understanding. Downing is a common symptom of mad cow disease. Downer cows seen on the program might have been suffering from other diseases, but as they have already been slaughtered, there is no way to tell whether or not they were infected with mad cow disease. Thats why 64,000 tons of beef, the biggest ever in history, was recalled in the United States, reads PD Notebooks posting.
On this, Jeong rebuked PD Notebook again on the board. Her reply message reads, I was convinced that relating (sick cows) with mad cow disease was improper considering how Americans responded when the video footage of a downer cow created a stir in the United States. Many causes can lead to downer cows, and mad cow disease is only one of the causes with the least possibility. If (PD Notebook) mentioned the flimsy chance, many people would have approached this issue more rationally.
...
Jeong also added that as she clearly asked two assistant writers to inform the producer of the show about the problem of associating downer cows with mad cow disease, the producer should have consulted with her, if the writers told the producer about the issue. |
And here is an interesting comparison with an episode of "60 Minutes."

English. Seriously though, this is not the place to push your Esperanto/space exploration/radical new keyboard agenda. |
Oh, it's always the time for my agenda Mr Shankly. If you think I'm an Esperanto fan you haven't been paying attention.
English is even starting to regress in some places:

English just won't happen as a world language. Count on it. |

Sorry, that should be the world language.
Real proof of it becoming the world language would be an absence of English teachers from other countries. |

The British Council agrees with me, by the way:

An analysis published in November 2005 by Byte Level Research concluded:
This data makes clear that the next Internet revolution will not be in English. While English isnt becoming any less important on the Internet, other languages, such as Chinese, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese, are becoming comparatively more important. |

LANGUAGES OF BUSINESS
English is by no means the only language in global business. Davis (2003) observes:
While English is a major language, it only accounts for around 30% of the world Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and is likely to account for less in the future. Neglecting other languages means ignoring quite significant potential markets. |
English is most definitely the strongest candidate (and will be for the foreseeable future), but I don't see it ever managing to close the deal. |

I get it, these people just don't understand journalism, truth or accuracy. They're just stupid. I'll help them out.
"Downing is a common symtom of mad cow disease....they have already been slaughtered, there is no way to tell whether or not they were infected with mad cow disease."
See what you did here? You took a fact and then drew your own, completely unrelated conclusions from that fact without any evidence. Let's use another example: You have a cough. Coughing is a symptom of pnemonia. People with AIDS sometimes suffer from pnemonia. I haven't actually done any tests on you, but because there is a POSSIBLE link, I've decided to accept it as fact and declare you have AIDS.
Hey eveyone, PD Dairy has AIDS! |

No, they are not interested in the facts. MBC often engages in anti-foreigner reporting, distorting things to attack the Right in Korea. That's the impression I get from reading about MBC. It doesn't mean they don't have any good reporting. They do, but their agenda is way too blatant, and they shouldn't be lying so blatantly to the Korean people and trying to feed on nationalism. It harms relations between two important allies - the US and South Korea. The US is Korea's friend and those trying to play on fears, engage in nationalism that is geared against the US would only hurt Korea, not the U.S. Also, the US is trying to get closer to North Korea and is being flexible with North Korea. The people of South Korea should some more openness vis-a-vis the American people, but it is hard to do with that some people in the media like MBC being irresponsible and attacking the allies of the Korean people. We are not the enemy of the Korean people. We are their friends. We are not perfect, but we are supposed to be friends. |

Those quotes are so misleading.
I saw a bunch of Russians today at Everland. They were performing in the parade. This led me to believe that the percentage of foreigners in Korea that are Russian is about 50%. |
