If I'm travelling overland by bus, from Thailand via Cambodia, can I get a visa to enter Vietnam at the border? Or do I have to go to an embassy and get a visa?

You cannot get a visa for Vietnam at any borders. You would have to apply in Cambodia. Most guesthouses will have a service where you can apply for one. They send your passport off, and in a few days and a fee (40 U.S dollars approx), you will receive it back. You will most likely get a 30 day visitor visa. Hope this helps.

Any ideas how much it costs to get there, and prices for a top quality resort. I will be flying from Korea in Nov.

Cheers and any help will be appreciated

you can bring your passport to the vietnamese embassy in phnom penh in the morning and pick it up with a new visa in the afternoon. no need to go through a guesthouse if you're in the city, because it's incredibly easy to handle it yourself.

If you're in Seoul, go to the VN embassy (near Anguk station) and get a visa if you already know what dates you'll be in VN. Each time I've done it, it's only taken around three business days.
