If you are calling FROM the school to students you are already teaching then it's probably pretty close to Okay... but you're welcome to have the Ministry of Education crack down on all of the 10,000,000,000,000 hagwons in Korea. |

| If you do decide to do this make sure the students call you. If they don't it still counts towards your hours. You don't want to chase students around all evening. No more than 3 students a day. |

I did this at my first hogwan and you will HATE it. It's a momumental waste of time for you. You will get many hangups from confused ajummas and kids that are shy about speaking English-ee. |

That's as unique as a McDonald's Cheese burger. My hagwon (which starts with W and rhymes with onderland) in Guro does this with all of the Kindy kids once a month. Basically what we do is take some of the material we've been teaching in the past month and ask each of them 5 questions. The kids love it (provided they love their teachers).
It's not too bad. The only thing I find annoying about it is my past job was at a call centre so you can imagine how much I look forward to phone teaching being over... I hate being on the phone. |
Stay at your hogwan. If you ENJOY this, then you belong in the world of hogwans.
BTW, where did you earn your bachelors degree? |

Why?
And the only thing I enjoy about Phone Teaching is interacting with the kids and seeing how much the can do without the teachers help. I hate being on the phone and I really don't like that I don't get paid the overtime it takes to DO the phone teaching because it's not CLASSROOM time or PREP TIME. |

Oh, phone teaching, how unique! Yes maybe 8 years ago.
Well if it's over your normal hours then it's overtime. Hakwon contracts are for a set amount of hours. Just refuse.
Phone teaching is not unique and is usually a complete waste of time. I did it for a month or two many years ago at my first job (hakwon).
Usually the ajuma will hang up on you because she can't understand the random English speaker on the phone. the telephone has to be one of the toughest communication mediums in a new language anyway, because there is no physical expression involved. Good luck getting little Min sok to say anything on a phone in English if he is a low level student. It's difficult even for adults, and confident EFL students.
All the teachers at my school refused. I tried as I said for 2 months. usually I called, got no answer, hung up, and checked the student off my list. That or the mom/student hung up on me. It was a joke.
It's such a pain how these hakwon owners have no idea about language teaching, but so many stupid ideas about "uniqueness" . Actually he's only thinking about money as usual. |

| Play the Yobeseyo Game. I am sure there was a post about the game and the rules. Basically, you have to get the receiver to say yobeseyo as many times as possible. |
