Is it possible to get to the airport for a flight by taking the Subway? From what I can figure from the Seoul Subway website, I can transfer from the "Seoul Station" stop and get out to Incheon. Is this true?

Any guidance or airport transport tips are much appreciated.

There is no "subway" to the airport, only an airport express train. So far, you can take the subway to Gimpo airport and follow the signs to the airport express, easy. Costs about 3500 won and you can use your T-money card on it. Takes about 32 min. There is a faster one but it is only about 5 min. faster and cost about 7500 won. Quick, comfortable and easy.

I believe it will be sometime in 2010 when the airport express is finished all the way to Seoul Station.

I did notice that the Seoul Subway map shows it's possible, but I'm sure one of those airport limousine buses would be faster. I'm not sure how to find out about those, but I seen a sign in Itaewon that reads airport limo across the street from the Hamilton hotel. I understand many larger bus terminals do have airport buses while in other places they stop at what appears to be a common city bus stop. I don't know why things like this are not clear, just ask other foreigners you know who have traveled how they're getting to and from the airport.

Take the bus if you can.

Dude you're really splitting hairs by calling it a train and not a subway. By definition all the trains on the subway system are trains. Does it stop being called a subway if it runs, at some point, above ground? It's displayed on the system map as a line, no?

Anyway to the OP check here:

I'd say it stops being called a subway if it is not openly linked to the rest of the subway system and requires you to pay more money than you do to get on the subway.

Having to pay 3500 won more is an important distinction that is a little more than just splitting hairs.

So there!

Lets see wiki's def:
Quote:

A rapid transit, underground, subway, elevated or metro(politan) system is a railway, usually in an urban area, with a high capacity and frequency of service and grade separation from other traffic.

Sounds like a subway to me.

It's much more expensive and takes just as long, if not longer, because of traffic jams.

OP, the subway line extension to Incheon Airport is very nice and you can get on it at a couple of different stops (check the subway map). It lets you out in the middle of the terminal.

It's never very crowded and there's much more space for your luggage.

I like buses except when travelling -- less staring by Koreans. Buses also have less luggage room than the airport train.

Two types of shuttles/trains leave Gimpo Airport to Incheon International Airport and back with about four stops inbetween. The Express Express takes about 28-30 min., and is very similar to a train, while the slower shuttle/train takes about 45 min. and resembles a subway car in terms of the seating arrangement.

I buy my shuttle/train ticket -- which resembles a card similar to T-money -- on the day I travel. It has costs me 3,100 Won for both types of train/shuttle.
