This is sort of a rant. ddeubel is one of our highly valued members who contributes materials and ideas he's amassed during his/her teaching experience. I really enjoyed his/her video's on Youtube, but they removed them and suspended his/her account. WTF?

We need more children's material made available. Like ddeubel, I had thought it was public domain unless it was newer than 7 years old in which case you'd have to buy it at a music or book store in America. Ddeubel's vids were the classic stuff that is well proven to be effective in edutaining children like London Bridge and Row Row. These are great supplementary materials. I'd like to find Miss Mary Mack material. Being overseas in Korea, we have no great stores to shop for English related children's materials so I, like most of you, depend on the downloading off the internet.

Thank you Dduebel for your contributions. Maybe an ESL resources site that the US couldn't touch would be great. It can't hurt to give kids on the other side of the world where there's none of this stuff available a taste of classic American children's edutainment.

A lot of youtube clones out there.

Its too bad because Ddeubel probably spent a LONG LONG time trying to upload those videos, making tags, descriptions, etc...

Why? Did they contain copyrighted music or material?

That's too bad.

I'm in the process of backing up my podcasts, because I have a feeling that the hosters of the site could go away at any time. They don't seem to show any interest in providing help or service to newbees in the forums there.

It's unfortunate when a caring, passionate teacher becomes the poster child for copyright infringement. The law's the law. Nothing to be proud of there. If they were your videos, books, and music that were posted online, I'm sure you'd feel cheated and violated.

It's all fun and games until your caught with your pants down. Probably downloads tons of illegal mp3s and movies. Unfortunately, it sounds like he could be jeopardizing his visa status by engaging in criminal acts of this magnitude.

Why bother expect students to come to class or do their own work without cheating / plagerizing, etc. Same same.

Robin Hood or Cheap Skate?

I'm sure Korea's the very last place you're ever going to get penalised for violating copyright. I've posted some stuff on-line and as far as I'm concerned, if you want to copy it, please do. I figure that if I'm willing to provide what I've worked on for free, I feel free to take. Considering DD's put 100X what almost anyone else has on-line for free I'm sure he doesn't have to feel guilty stealing a bit of other stuff. When I buy textbooks one thing I consider is how well it will photocopy.

Absolutely. I really do think education should have free reign when it comes to usage. As long as no one is profiting, where's the harm? It's one thing if the students can afford the textbook (as in a university setting), but quite another if your school doesn't have the budget for books, or if you're in a poor area with limited to no resources.

I only have a moment, must be brief (using my phone and can't typewell, my wrists hurt).

They came and got me this morning. Now I know how the samizdat guys felt back in the cold days. As soon as I figure out how to get broadband and a desktop from this jail - I'll reply at length.

I'm sure all the self-righteous types will crawl out of their holes. Such is the way of life.....

Everything is still available on karaoke. Download the player http://eflclassroom.com/software/karafun.exe then, get the songs on EFL Classroom 2.0

Got to go - I'm being screamed at.

DD

PS. Blame Bruce Hornsby!!!!

There's all kinds of English materials at Kyobo and other (the names elude me) bookstores. If you still can't find what you need, thats where this great thing called the internet can help! Just look at online shops (start with Amazon) and there are all kinds of educational materials out there. I know, it's not free, but it doesn't hurt to make an investment every now and then in your profession.

LOL.....nice one David. Gonna get around the fuckers in the end. I'm rooting for you.

You actually got picked up, cuffed, and booked? Wow. Shocked

Well, keep your head up, your mouth shut, and whatever you do, DO NOT PICK UP THE SOAP. (It's a trap.)

Bloody Bruce. I always thought, by his lyrics, that he was for the little people ...
'That's just the way it is' ... 'But, don't you believe them' ... blah blah - barf.

I'm not sure I understand why he ws arrested though. I thought with copyright infringement, you were sued...

Perhaps this is a long running case.

And did Bruce Hornsby have to file a criminal complaint in the land of copyright infringement and ripoff? (Korea)

Or was DD elsewhere when the hammer came down?

Sorry for my clumsy attempt at satire poet13 (but I do accuse Hornsby!).

But I believe http://www.vimeo.com/1776650

Soujourner1 - find all the kids stuff on our Elementary page in much better video quality. Just use the Site Map to get there http://eflclassroom.com/directory/directory1.html

In the next few weeks I'll have up an EFL 2.0 tube with a full, high quality slate of the vids....

As for copyright issues etc....I'll be posting on my blog this week, a big response / rundown. Not worth repeating here but it is trying - to get the commercialization of knowledge off the educational supper table. Necessary for many reasons (look at Kaplan - the Haliburton of education).

For those interested in the subject, I once again recommend this presentation by Larry Lessig. He really puts lays out the problem succinctly.
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/larry_lessig_says_the_law_is_strangling_creativity.html We even have Nobel Laureates saying the same thing about copyright and its uselessness as presently operating.

I do urge any teacher who likes what they get to buy the actual book / music / video . That's why I offer the bookstore. We as educators just shouldn't be hijacked by availability issues nor unable to share in this day of anywhere/anytime/anyhow. Anyway, more later. I'm free!

My apologizes to any who unnecessarily worried -- I've been in bigger binds...this is just the way it is...
