i'm sorry, i didn't paste the correct URL for fear of the swear filter. replace the asterisk with exactly what you think should be there and you'll get it.

I studied political campaigns, ads and music in grad school. I was interested in the type of music used in ads and at rallies other than the campaign theme songs. Unfortunately, most research is only about the campaign theme songs.

I'm reminded of Bruce Springsteing's Born in the USA being used by Reagan. Bruce said Reagan obviously didn't know what the songs or lyrics meant, or a Repub. wouldn't be using it.

Uberscheisse: how do you know this document is authentic?

Sounds like a political virgin, then. Why would the reelect-R. Reagan campaign exploit an immensely popular song that hit the charts from summer through fall 1984? Meanwhile, W. Mondale and G. Ferraro were promising to raise taxes upon election...

There's no need to swear incessantly when a politician uses your copyrighted music without your approval. You're in America. Just sue him.

And as for the publishing of that letter,...

If the link gets a million hits then the letter is "real" enough isn't it?

I'd have to look it up, but WHO were they raising taxes on and what benefits would come from it?

Give me a break. I will not argue the 1984 election. The Dems campaigned on raising taxes. We associate that with their loss that year. No debate on this, really. But here we debate everything, from the Moon landings to 9/11. So have your day.

considering that mccain has a penchant for calling his own wife a c*nt, i'd say that the presentation is appropriate.

Didn't ask for a debate or argument, just implying that poor and middle class American voters didn't know what was beneficial to them in 1984. Or today.

Now that's just plain ignorance of the role of the Wilson sisters in the Seattle music scene.

R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Candlebox all have cited Heart as an influence on their musical development.

Yes, artists! folk musicians fused with rock to produce original tunes.

Very well. So you stand above them and can judge their behavior. Congratulations.

While we are judging people, however, how about the wisdom of campaigning on a promise to raise taxes? Or resorting to crude and transparent scare tactics like this ad, which seems to have played off of several films and television mini-series.

And where is it...?

Right. I was also looking for this.

So "the people" failed to behave in a way that might have warranted your approval in 1984? No. the problem is that the Democrats failed to offer a better alternative to the Reagan Administration. As far as "today" goes, "today" is far from over. Let us see what happens in November.
