I said it in the last thread; I'll say it again.
Shitty article from a shitty paper.
Is it just me or is it that whenever I see a "dirty foreigner" article, it's coming from the Chosun Ilbo? |

So one girl is quoted, and the newspaper investigates a public forum and reports its findings.
How about some real news you fucking clowns. |

I asked this in in the deleted thread: Is this an article or is it an editorial? It subscribes to the latter posing as the former.
How is one tactless idiot, possibly misquoted, foreigner evidence for our "prejudices towards Korea and Korean women in particular" being a serious issue in Korea? |

A nation of weenies. Why would a newspaper be writing articles about opinions posted on message boards without being able to verify whether or not those actually making the statements are actually teachers? |

Boring, overstated, racially motivated article.
Although the amount of racism on this site does disgust me. When I want less racist debates, more open-minded posters, and fewer Internet-tough-guys, I go to www.skinheads.net. Much more rational people on there. |

Whats more are you sitting down for this? there are even posts demeaning Korean culture, for example, comparing kimchi to food waste. |
My god, someone made disparaging remarks about kimchi! |

I can't see the food waste lobby being too pleased about that. |

Wow, what a horrible site; I'd rather go troll 4chan or somethingawful.com or go have a lobotomy... |

Not to sound like the gal M-su but I'm seeing a Korean gal tonight-but we won't be eating kimchi, because kimchi is fit for the dumbass lemmings and farm animals.
It's true.

You know what this means? More whining about wylies99 and more reposting of the wisdom of wylies99 on Korean websites, AFTER it's been run through the worst online translators in the universe. They do it to many of us.
Some Korean netizen (mis-) translated something wylies99 posted about Korean weddings (Basically-Give 30,000 won, take a few pics, and enjoy the buffet) and posted it on some Korean webpage. It received over 600 posts from Koreans.
Remember, Korean netizens think Steve Schertzer, Duncan Hunter, and David Theissen are geniuses. |

What's wrong with that one? At least there they don't tolerate racism. |

What would happen? I imagine that English teachers would soon find another venue to congregate online in.
All large websites have an 'aura' about them and frankly Dave's aura is not the best: He runs this site for a profit, not because he cares about the ESL community (though perhaps one time long ago that was not the case) His mod's can be less-than-objective, and the final litmus test on what we are permitted to talk about is clearly how it effects Dave's bottom line.
I use the site not because I have any more affinity for Dave than he has for me, but because there is a reasonable amount of traffic representing a reasonably diverse cross-section of ESL instructors and professors in Korea. No other reason.
One thing I will tell you, though, is that the Korean discussion forum is not going anywhere. There is no danger of this forum being banned by the Korean government. They recognize that the site is integral for filling the countries legitimate needs for English instructors. I am sure that there is a clear understanding between our dear leader whose portrait graces every page and the appropriate Korean authorities.
Dave's retirement fund is safe

I'm sure the mods have been instructed to pull all such threads. This one is probably next. You have to realize that Dave's can be put on a ban list by Korean authorities rather easily. If that happens (and there is always a real possibility that such a thing could in this country) then Dave will lose a substantial amount of money. Imagine what would happen to this forum and the job board if Dave's were to be banned? |

Ok, here is one thing they did about our stewardess thread
http://ruliweb.empas.com/mypi/mypi.htm?id=ashio&num=9663
( originally from here: http://gesomoon.gameshot.net/zboard/zboard.php?id=web_soci&no=1635 )
:
bassexpander
And here is what I originally said:
bassexpander
There were a few stewardesses flying together in the seats next to us on Korean Air -- they were taking advantage of a free flight home. One kept flirting with me on the way to my wife's home for Solal. It was blatantly obvious, and my wife wasn't very happy about it. She kept giving me eyes, and my wife caught her once. Not a good scene.
Am I reading this incorrectly, or did he mistranslate what I said to spice it up and make me look like I cheated on my wife? |
