Kicking can be broken down further; passing, shooting, dribbling, dead-ball scenarios. Then there's heading the ball. Being good in the 'air' is a highly sought skill. Then you've got all the bell and whistle stuff; dummying and trickery etc. If we applied the same reductionist thinking to baseball, we'd say it was nothing more than throwing and hitting, when I'm sure that there's much more than that going on.

You also have marking and tackling, crossing, dead-ball play, off-the-ball running, on-the-ball running, etc etc

Can we not just agree that H-Daddy and Cheeseface just know nothing about soccer and baseball respectively? Their lack of knowledge is embarrassing yet they seem to revel in it. Interesting.

Not too mention, diving, whining and screaming at the ref.

Can we just call it football (90% of all clubs have the word football in their names, so please try to follow international standards when referring to the most popular game in the world) Remember foot + ball = football.

I will admit that all know about baseball is that it is a game that derives directly from the British girls game of rounders.

Where I'm from it's called soccer by a lot of people. Football is Gaelic football. Normally I just go by context. If I'm talking to a brit, I'll say football for soccer.

If you don't know anything about baseball, you should stop talking about. Why look ignorant on purpose.

When I was kid, I was a much better soccer player than baseball player. These days I follow soccer a lot more than baseball. I've even been to a World Cup qualifying game (Uruguay v. Argentina) and the famed Boca v. River Plate derby.

Sorry. You said soccer only had two skills. You must have been joking. its hard to tell sarcasm online.

What was the boca-river game like? when was that?

edit: also being old and still playing doesn't mean that a game has more skill, it just means less athleticism is required. But you were probably joking about that too.

Fall 2005. Here's my blog post from the game. I'm still mad that I didn't take my camera and get any pictures.

Huffdaddy, I just browsed your blog and was interested in your rice harvest pictures. I'm assuming that these were taken in Korea right? Are Korean agricultural practices something that you're knowledgeable on, or were these pics just taken out of general interest? If it's the former, then I may like to pick your brain about something for an upcoming assignment I'm working on as part of my ongoing MSc.

Yes, they were all taken in Korea. Sorry, but I know pretty much nothing about Korean agricultural practices. Just what you see pics of is the extent of my knowledge. I just wanted to document a rice season.

^Two things wrong with the above. First of all, Maradona was a fat, cheating, cocaine-snorting, bastard. A much better example would've been Pele.

Secondly, I take exception the Rugby being 'fucking shit'. Football is a game played by eleven individuals. Rugby is a game played by a team of fifteen. I can agree that Football is probably more enjoyable from the spectators perspective, but having played both, football doesn't come close to rugby in terms of playing the game. There's nothing quite as exhilarating as either making a good tackle or breaking a good tackle. The other great thing about rugby; win or lose, you're on the booze.

All of those things you said about Maradona are true, but that just adds to the legend. He was waaaaaay more exciting than Pele, no better player ever.

Rugby players drink each others piss on a night out cos they think it's funny.

Also, what are you talking about football is a team of individuals?
