Great topic I know. But I just had my renewal medical and they asked for a stool sample, for parasites. Granted, I probably do have parasites from the amount of raw fish this country eats but I flatly refused to do it as it's unnecessary for the visa. They were pretty adamant but eventually they gave up.

Has anyone else come across this? What gives?

I've read about it on here. It's not part of immigration's requirements, it's just random hospitals' basic procedure.

Good on you for treating a hospital fairly and like the business it is. You wouldn't buy a watermelon from Lotte Mart just because they demanded it, would you?

It's bad enough having to give blood and urine samples, but giving a stool sample would just be... shitty!

Yeah, ever since I gave them the stool sample, the darned thing tilts to the right whenever I sit on it.

I felt like a mushroom because they were keeping me in the dark and feeding me shit so I gave them a toadstool sample.

Just drop your pants and take a crap on their desk. If they object, blame it on the language barrier.

Tell 'em you had a lot of beer and Mexican food last night, so you will need a large sheet of paper to give them their sample Rorschach style. Let 'em see what they can make out from that test!

But... if it had a maple leaf sewn on, would it not be from a U.S. backpacker/ESLer masquerading as a Canadian?

Why not take the opportunity to make sure that all is well in your digestive system? I'd think it wise to check for parasites, given that 85% of the population does have them, and they can cause serious problems.

If they are to pay for it, it'd be stupid to pass by the opportunity. If you're to pay for it, it's not a stupid expenditure. The foundation of our health is the digestive system, which is too often neglected.

I doubt they want to check your stool for play reasons or for personal reasons. They are taking steps to protect their population. Why not respect them here? Why not respect your own health here?

If you must pay, there is some room to argue; but the test itself is a good idea.
