Oh goody a gaming topic.. :)

I recommend the advice of several posters on this thread, to follow the games, not the gimmicks. Both consoles are incredibly good at what they do and it's going to come down to what you're going to use the bloody thing for.

The racing games, I think that the PS2 has it completely covered, due to the strength of one existing game, and one up and coming. They are Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec and Gran Turismo 4. Any car nut worth his or her salt would have played this game to death. By far, the best racing simulator on any console, ever.

I'm also a big fan of strategy and RPG (think Final Fantasy), where the PS2 seems to have an advantage over the X-Box at this time. :)

However, I'll agree that the X-Box is the BEST solution for a PC-style multimedia machine for the lounge. This thing is amazing. Get it modded, load up a new interface, and you can access any share on your network. MP3's are a breeze with its BUILT IN Dolby Digital decoder (the PS2 only has DTS, but both have optical outputs) and you're set for a seriously fun machine. Swap out the harddrive, and you can borrow games, dump them straight to the harddrive then load them up at your own pleasure.

The X-Box just has so much potential, but only the really tech savvy types are making the most of it.

I'm tempted to pick up an X-Box when I get home, purely for the purpose of watching my DivX and downloaded clips onto the big screen in a no-fuss manner.

I have just the ps2. I'm not really into online gaming and I simply will not buy a console if I can't play Final Fantasy games on it, no matter how good the hardware is. Also the burned games in English at Yongsan are sweet - do they have burned English Xbox games?

Another game worth noting is Tokyo Extreme Racer 3 which I had shipped over that came out six weeks ago. Surprisingly good and seems to be getting high marks. Good thing, since I shipped it over simply because of nostalgia from playing the earlier ones.

While the PS2 lacks the dedicated hardware, it can render it on the other processors. Much like bump mapping. The PS2 can't do it in hardware, but you can tell the processors how to do it, and thus it does. Having the Xbox include the hardware is easier, but that's a perk you get by coming out two years later.

Also, you can load an emulator into a modded Xbox and play FF3/6 the best FF ever.

RPGs, the Xbox had come a long way and the only place I would say the Xbox lags still is racing. But hopefully with Namco's R Revolution and Need for Speed underground, it has gained some ground.

But obviously nothing beats the GT brand.

I don't have my xbox with me, but my friends are telling me nothing beats multiplayer Crimson Skies, and on the FPS front, xbox has the ps2 beat.

Heck yeah, Madden could be the only video game ever made and I'd be happy...

My two roomies and I played 11 seasons of football in the first 4 months of our senior years of college. One guy was the Redskins, the other the Ravens, and I was the Broncos... every game of every season for 11 seasons... of course, I drafted Mike Vick, so he was like 34 by the time we stopped... could still fly though...

I love the X-box. They have not even tapped the potential of that machine yet.

Halo, even after 2-3 years of being out, is still a great game. Believe it or not, I like those big controllers. They are comfortable for my hands.

PS2 has some good selling points, one of them being compatible with PS1 in games and controllers.

The first couple of shipments were shoddy and a lot of them had to be repaired or replaced. The X-box is a much sturdier system.
