I suspect you didn't put much thought into this comment other than "Duh, I'll turn this'un around on'im" given that I haven't indicated one way or another what I feel I am or am not entitled to. (But here's a hint: just because I have an F-5 visa, I do not expect blowjobs from $1000/hour hookers just for leaving my apartment in the morning.)

And once again, for the learning disabled: an entry level editing job =! a high paying ESL job. (Oh, and do some reading folks, the advert is for F-2, F-5, or E-2 visa holders who can get permission to work a second job.)

Reading comprehension must have passed you by. That was in reference to whether E-2 jobs paid more than 3.2million/month. Some do, some don't. Nothing at all about entitlement there. Jesus H.

Yes, but your whole argument (that this job is not a rip off) hinges on the fact that they would make a higher wage than an E-2 visa holder. Saying that some hagwons pay more some pay less is hardly proving anything (besides you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground) Rolling Eyes

No, retard, my argument was not that this job *would* pay better than a hagwon. My argument, which apparently, despite the fact that I've said it again, and again, and again, seems to have bypassed your single active brain-cell, is that there is nothing special about this job. Some jobs pay more hourly, some do not. It's an entry level job, and it pays the same as an average public school job hourly. There is nothing to see here. Learn some math, jackhole.

Anyways, the point is, with an F-2, 20k for an editor job is insulting - well insulting to teachers who have degrees and know how to teach. I know it isn't a teaching job, but imo editing is harder. Why work harder for 20k an hour?

Well, let's put it this way. You seem to expect an entry level editing position to pay the same as an upper level esl position and you find it insulting when it isn't? The sense of entitlement on this board is absolutely mind-boggling.

This is my sense of entitlement:

I have 10 years experience teaching ESL. I have a sense of my worth.

In those 10yrs, I have done editing for about 3 of those years.

20k an hour, no thanks.

What is mind boggling is someone with extensive experience settling for an entry-level job that doesn't pay for that experience.

You confuse me with those who are new to Korea or been here for a couple years. I came when salaries started at 900k-1mil won. I've done my entry level time.

Let's present this in a retail way:

If I worked in retail for 10 years, including being in management, would I apply for an entry-level job for minimum wage or would I expect my expertise and experience to count for more?

That you have editing experience is wholly unrelated to THIS job. THIS job is an ENTRY LEVEL job. YOU should not be looking at ENTRY LEVEL JOBS because you have EXPERIENCE. This is a really difficult concept, right? (Or did I miss the part where they mentioned you by name in the advert?) Is somebody holding a gun to your head?

Do you really not understand the concept of entry level positions? Do you really not understand that this job is not for you personally? Were you one of those kids who thought Mr. Rogers was speaking to you directly?

Christ on a shingle. Your position is basically saying, "Any job listed that is not aimed at somebody with 10 years of experience is insulting." Ri-god-damn-diculous.

Why would they expect people with mass-comm degrees and editing experience (both of which they ask for) for an entry level position? Anyone with such credentials would never settle for the pay they are offering.

They are underpaying for the experience they are expecting to hire.

Yes, very difficult requirements to meet. Bachelors degree, my god! 5 years experience editing...no wait, 4 years exp...3? oh, no, just "experience required." Kind of like all those universities that "require" masters degrees, right? Because nobody with a bachelors degree has ever gotten to teach in a university in Korea, right?

You know, all you people have to do to shut me up is to show me that most editing jobs pay much better than this one, because honestly, I have no idea what editing pays. I just have a suspicion that either A) it doesn't pay all that well or B) if it does pay well, it's the best kept secret in Korea.
