Korean or NA version of warrock? I remember beta testing the NA version of warrock a couple years ago, god it sucked. There were so many problems with it. Most of it was lag related. I haven't checked out the Korean version yet. I just did wolf team for the blog (its off of hangame) its no ava, but it is kind of interesting. You can turn into a werewolf type thing on some maps, and one of the load-outs gives you a portable turret you can set up as your main weapon. Its one of the few games where you can loot the body dropped pieces for ammo (you have to hold down right click for a couple seconds). I'm going to post some video and screens in a few minutes.

Generally I find most MMORPGs boring. They almost always degenerate into grinding. Maybe its a blessing that my Korean isn't good enough to play them. I've played most several of them for short times but could never get in to them (EQ, EQ2, WoW, LOTR and probably a dozen others for at least 2-3 weeks each)

Both. I was the lead GM and CM for WarRock NA though, and yes it did suck - although i remember it was funny to spectate (and ban) the cheaters shooting from in rocks, under the map, and flying tanks around...although that was largely because NA cheaters/hacks are way more prominent than in Korea, and the Korean anti-cheat shields are a joke. I did introduce Punkbuster to WarRock but the Korean developers weren't willing to share sourcecode information with PB and hence their hands were limited in terms of the anti-cheat measures they could implement.

I think LOTRO has the best quest system in that it reduces grinding by offering quests that are non-combat but heavy in in-game lore/story. The problem i had with the quests was at the higher levels the payoffs were not worth the hours you spent doing the quest. The quests got harder, and more complex by the payoff was less.

Red_Devil, I just updated again with another FPS you might like. Its called "Pointblank" from NCSoft. NCsoft allows foreign registration on the website and after playing Pointblank for a few hours yesterday I found it to be pretty fun. The Helicopter demolition map is really fun. Between AVA and Pointblank it'd be a tough call on which one I'd want to fire up.

Thanks, i've already spent 40 hours in AVA though and i think i'll stick with that until Star Wars: Old Republic comes out. Razz

The thing i hate about Korean FPS is that the gameplay is not equal footing. If you spend real money or get to advanced levels you can have so many more advantages through various perks...

What's your AVA name? Add me to your friends list if you're ever playing - mine is: Ninjaz

I haven't really found that. Most of the cash items I see are aesthetic or things which don't really effect gameplay. Like extra clips. It sounds good, but 90% of the time I don't run out of bullets anyway. My in game name is the same. I haven't run into any big issues on AVA or Pointblank in terms of balance except that some people seem to score an unusually high percentage of head shots on me. But I usually still do pretty well. The past day I've won the map a significant amount of times in Pointblank.
I've added you as a friend on Pmang.

I think..

But if you look in the item shop in-game (not website) you will see a lot of different add on's that give you armor upgrades, accuracy upgrades, EXP bonus, stopping power, etc. I also think the hitboxes are WACK. Those headshots are BS...

As cash items? I bought some armor upgrades and radar upgardes but they were in game money items. The only cash items I see in game is a shirt (but I don't think its armor), some hats, exp bonus (which doesn't really do anything, just lets you raise your rank faster) and a supply bonus. I'm not sure what supply exactly does. And a money bonus. The only way those effect gameplay is that you can get money faster than normal.. but you can still buy the same things.

I do agree the hit zones seem to be completely messed up. I'm sure I die 30-40% of the time from head shots.

All i know is that i'm a decent player but when i pump half a clip into guys and they spin around and pop 1-2 shots into me and i'm dead, the gameplay is unbalanced and they got a lot of armor. It happens to me all the time. I don't have all the armor upgrades and crap because i'm still fairly low level and spent most of my money getting good guns. But you go against these guys that have like 1000+ hours logged and they got so much armor it's ridiculous. If you've ever watched the matches, they aren't allowed to have all those add-ons so people drop pretty quickly, so that's how i know people are using a lot of these upgrades...

Is AVA the newest of this kind of FPS in Korea right now? Are there any others going into closed or open beta? I thought AVA was new but i've been seeing videos of this game going as far back as 2006...and i feel like i've kinda missed the boat on this game...

Oh yeah I've seen that. Have you gotten the P90? With the P90 I seem to be doing much better. I think the difference is that body and leg shots seem to do far less damage than head shots. It might be a habit from western shooters which I used to play where it didn't matter as much but I often keep my crosshairs around mid-stomach. After I got the P90 and moved them up a bit I started doing better, but yeah I've emptied a clip a few times and wondered wtf. Wolf-team has everyone's health above their head so you can see what they were left with.

As for being the newest. Hanbiton is making a new Fantasy FPS called Warcry, I'm trying to get in to the closed beta. My guess is it'll be released within the next few months.. its the second closed beta.. so I might guess 2-3 months. They don't always have obvious release dates for things, but from what I've played so far (and I still have plenty to play) AVA and Pointblank are the two most recent games based on engines. If you ever played Hellgate London Hanbiton still runs that. They bought the IP rights to it and you can download and play it free. It is a bit of an Action RPG so there are some quests. I played the tutorial and found it a little bit much, but there is a walkthrough online you could read if you got stuck. It might have helped if I played the western version first, but it is shut down.

I'll be running through the sites to pick my next game in a couple hours. I'll see if I can find a newer fresher shooter and let you know.

Thanks, i come from America's Army, Rainbow 6, Ghost Recon, BF2, and Call of Duty 4, so the fantasy/sci-fi shooters (like Huxley) aren't what i'm really looking for...i wish COD4 was popular in Korea, that was a great game.

I'm digging around now, but I should mention Karma 2. It is a WW2 shooter it is new. Just the last few months. I covered it on the blog. The controls take a little getting used to, but if you want a new one, you might try it.

I notice on mgame they claim operation 7 is new, but the page has news items going back to 2007 on it.

According to Naver, the last 5 FPS games to come out in Korea from newest to oldest are:
Karma 2 January
Sting December
Pointblank October
Counter Strike Zombie 2 May
Vital code - March

Apparently vital code is out. It is made..but it isn't on a site anywhere. I think the company that made it is shopping it around. Counter strike is dated. I'm trying Sting now, it might be what you're looking for.

Wow there are a lot of headshots in sting..
4 games in, I think I'm sitting at around dying about 70% of the time from headshots or heartshots. Game is new though...so not a lot of power users there. The language bar gets broken by this game. I had the problem with pointblank. PB was blocking shift-alt so I had to change the language bar to crtl-shift. Sting appears to be blocking both combinations of ctrl shift and alt shift. And the language bar can only be keyed to those.
I might have to change my default language to Korean in order to type in the game.

Yeah i went and watched some gameplay videos of Sting and Pointblank. I know i've seen quite a few people playing PB, but it's the same crowd that plays Sudden Attack. All of these games look dated though, and are either Sudden Attack or WarRock clones. I can just tell by the way the hitboxes work and the damage. I guess i'll just wait for now and see if another game that looks and works better shows up.

yeah I just played a lot more Sting. It gets better after you get used to it. Not quite as many head shots, but the headshots and heartshots are pretty insane. It is new though... so if you want to get in on one that is new, it might be worth it to trade in AVA. AVA is clearly the graphical winner but Sting is right up there with it. PB definitely has a slightly more cartoonish look about it.. I think its the colors.

There is another shooter that looks decent called Land Mass. Its a futuristic one with powered suits. I'm going to try that one out too.

Hmm, i'll watch more gameplay footage of STING, i didn't like PB at all. Oh and this is a game that's in CBT right now. It's a bit more futuristic, not my thing but maybe you might like it.

http://ad.paran.com/

I think these games are ok, i mean i thought WarRock was a lot of fun, but the game engines are weak and i think this will be hacked to death (like WR was) in the coming months. AVA uses the UT3 engine, so i think the hacking will be a lot less and 100x more difficult.

I saw AD, I'm trying to get in to the CBT for that too. Paran I think didn't really have anything else of interest, so I didn't really write about that site yet. In slightly related news I found out Netmarble has an RTS on it that is NOT starcraft. It is currently the only RTS available that I can find. Apparently pmang had one called duelgate, but its shut down I think.

If you know of any game portals I haven't listed on my blog yet please let me know. I think I still have 2 more to list that foreigners can sign up for, allstar, paran, and hmm..imbc, but if you know of some others please let me know. I'm only interested in the ones like the ones i've listed. I know there are some portals that just have flash games, or flash games and gamepacks (shareware games) but I'm not interested in those portals. Its getting difficult to find new portals as my searches are starting to turn up dry.
