A very amusing video of the end of an "occupation" at NYU.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Q6KAg6qEGY
My favorite moments involve the discussion of "we need to figure out the power structures" and "who can be the facilitator". But the very best part is when he is taking an inventory of their stuff in the event that it gets taken. "ok, we have a mac book (x3), an iPod, etc" Oh lefties..
Read the comments. Awesome. |

Mises,
I think you fail to realize real heavyweights who support this movement.
And this movement is very important.

The N.Y.U. students created a Web site (takebacknyu.com) where they published their demands, including thorough annual reporting of the universitys operating budget, expenditures and endowment. They also want the university to provide 13 scholarships a year to students from the Gaza Strip and give surplus supplies to the Islamic University of Gaza. |

Egg on my face (thrown by Noam).
I don't think they actually had a solid motive or cause. Lots of screaming about democracy and leftist platitudes. Poor kids are trying to apply the ideas they "studied" in sociology class (+macbooks, skinny jeans and American Apparel t-shirts). |

N.-Chomsky-backed-revolution-in-the-cafeteria. Typical. "What is the hierarchy?" "Use of force!" "Demands!" "He touched me!" "We are using 'consensus process' on whether we are going to provide ID." "We have to decide." "Who wants to the be the facilitator? We have some markers, tape, and a MacBook with a power cord..."
This is what academics are creating in undergrad education. "Don't Taser Me, 'Bro! Part II"
You cannot resort to unilateral use of force and call what you are doing "democracy," especially when you are disregarding the university's democratic, representative, constitutionally-arrived at decision-making institutions (faculty and student govts, for example, board of regents and links with state govts, for another). And if you do, please do so professionally and plan your op. "Amateur" does these bozos too much justice... |

Ok, new drinking game. Watch this video and each time the little brat says "consensus" you have to take a shot. It's guaranteed to get you drunk. |

He was talking about consensus, doing things democratically, and that he has it all on tape. |

That's a nasty argument between the Marxist-Leninist and the Anarcho-Syndicalist in the comments section, isn't it?

You saw this, too, right? "Rich white dudes..."
A disruption for democracy, an occupation for all!
You are aware that the YouTube comments you refer to notwithstanding, Mises, these students, their views and their vocabulary, and their methods, all reflect humanities and liberal arts professors' teachings and politics, to the letter, "corporate water" and all?
Also, if I were Macintosh, I do not know whether I would consider such publicity as this good or bad. For one thing, it confirms its hold over this market. For another thing, it would seem to confine it to this market as well, even if, ironically, rich, white dudes seem to gather all the profits from these students' purchases of their products, including the iPods... |
