|
|
I spotted a tallboy of Carlsberg at my local Emart last week and was pretty surprised. I've never seen it before in any bar here, let alone a department store so I picked up a pair. This week they've got 6-packs.
I also spotted another Danish beer, Harboe, at the Lotte mart which I've also never seen here before. It's a red beer, and looked interesting so I picked a few up but have yet to try them.
What new or interesting beers have you spotted or tried recently? |

Carlsberg was one of the very first, if not the first foreign beer sold in modern Korea. It isn't new on the scene, it's just reappeared. |

jongno guru is right. believe it or not, carlsberg is probably the most popular beer in the world. by the way, it's swill in the us and canada because its brewed locally. same problem with pilsner urquell. trust me, carlsberg is a hell of a lot better in denmark. tuborg is better though. |

Pilsner Urquell is great in the Czech Republic, costs about 1000won per pint there. Over here in WA bar's and the like it's about 8000won per bottle, ridiculous. |

Isnt Heineken the most popular beer? can you get that in Korea?
I am not in Korea yet, so forgive my ignorance...
Can you not find Western beer? What about in Japan?
I am from Portland.. and if you know anything about beer and arnt Canadian, you know where good beer comes from....
Sorry about the Canada jab, I love Canada... its just that every time I go I get a douche lecture from some drunk Cunuck preaching their watery beer over the US watery beer... When they both suck and are owned by Belgium and South Africa...
blah blah blah |

I'd argue that American craft beers are the best in the world- but it's all a matter of preference. I happen to prefer hoppy beer.
In terms of what beer is the most drank in the world, the answer may surprise you.
#1. Snow (China)
#2. Bud Light
#3. Budweiser
#4. Skol (Brazil)
#5. Corona

The taste is horrible here too. But in the Czech Republic it's oh so sweet. I really wish they would start exporting Gambrinus though. |

homeplus has started to get a half decent range of imports, quite a few european beers.
What they need is for some of the big korean brands to start putting out some specialty, or limited release beers. This way it might encourage the locals to buy something other than cass, creating a market for microbrews and different types of beers. Unless the market is there we are never going to see good imports and good locally brewed beers become common |

I agree with ya on the hoppy beers... I had some IPA in Canada called Alexander Keiths... Got to be the weakest, blandest IPA I've ever had...
but yeah, I always forget that there is literally a billion people in China... But Bud light over Bud normal is a surprise as is Corona.. that stuff is frat boy over priced garbage |

curse you Portland Maine... my nemesis!
actually in all of my extensive overseas and US travel I've never had anyone get Oregon and Maine confused... that's probably due to the fact that no one seems to care about either state.. and I am forced to give me location in relation to California... poor Washington's got it worse I fear... being a state rather than the district.
Props to NE beer as well, I really like Magic hat out in Vermont.
Does anyone know about the Western beer situation in Japan? Could I theoretically make a beer run to Japan? (along with the usual tourist junk) |
