Let's not dis the Great and Sovereign state that made Obama a viable candidate, please. One could begin to think you've read too many of Nowhere Man's posts. (I'm kind of busy this weekend being proud of Iowa for it's gay marriage decision last Friday, too.)

There, I said it.

Hey Supernationalist: Gopher was just paraphrasing CNN:

Quote:
Speaking at a packed town hall meeting in Strasbourg on his first overseas trip as president, [B.] Obama said...

Further, as someone else already noted, Canada does not count as "abroad." And did people not ridicule S. Palin at one point in the campaign for claiming that because she had been in Canada, she had been abroad...?

It's very possible you will go to hell and burn for all eternity for that, you know.

The only known remedy for blaphemy like that is watching a double feature of 'Field of Dreams' and 'Bridges of Madison County' while eating popcorn.

a⋅broad   /əˈbrɔd/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [uh-brawd] Show IPA
adverb 1. in or to a foreign country or countries: famous at home and abroad.
2. in or to another continent: Shall we go to Mexico or abroad this summer?
3. out of doors; from one place to another; about: No one was abroad in the noonday heat. The owl ventures abroad at night.
4. spread around; in circulation: Rumors of disaster are abroad.
5. broadly; widely; far and wide.
6. wide of the mark; in error.

The second definition is the one most people I've spoken with use. Canada and Mexico are not abroad under that definition.

"abraod" beyond the boundaries of one's country.

He did visit Canada, which is beyond the border of his country.

Anyway, a good point on his part.

Maybe what Gopher was referring to was his first trip outside of the Laughing North American Union.

Man, I wish Canada and the U.S. would unite. Canada's my second favorite country in the world.

What a coincidence, Mexico's mine!

Let's do it!

It's good that you can admit you were wrong. It's bad that you don't realize how often you are wrong.

I think that, with lines like that, you should seek employment as a Hollywood script writer when you finish your hogwon world-tour...

Why, Thanks. You know, with your foreign policy expertise, you'd be perfect for an internship under Sarah Palin. Don't miss out on your dream job. Go for it.

Although it has to be said, this was rather pathetic behaviour from Obama.

Prostrating yourself infront of the monarch (descendant of some bedouin who managed to gain power in the desert as a result of British support) of a nation that funds radical mosques, bans other religions, and produced almost all the 9-11 terrorists.

Shameful.

I don't think the Bush Administration showed an arrogant or disdainful attitude toward most of Western Europe, only the French and Germans, who have yet to pony up for the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan despite President Obama's overtures.

Spain-before the socialists were elected--sent troops as of course did the Brits, despite having a Labor Party leader at 10 Downing Street. And Bertolucci and Bush got along famously.

But I'm glad you distinguished them from the Eastern Europeans who in the main liked Bush and understood from recent experience with the Soviets the true meaning of freedom. Of course the mainstream liberal media never has this half of Europe in mind whenever it laments our image on the continent.

Well then; if Bush made his first trip abroad to Mexico, wouldnt it be fair to say that Obama made his first trip abroad to Canada?

What about Peru then?.

Visa Study Shows Canada and Mexico are Top Destinations for Americans Traveling Abroad

According to this study by Visa, Mexico and Canada is regarded as abroad.

When it comes to Obama, these news headlines clearly state that Obamas first trip abroad was to Canada, and not to Europe which you stated, and after being brought to your attention, you didnt acknowledge your mistake.

And from Australia.

From Foxs link:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/abroad
1. Out of one's own country.
2. In a foreign country or countries.
3. Away from one's home.
4. In circulation; at large.
5. Covering a large area; widely: "An epidemic is abroad in America" (Richard M. Smith).
6. Not on target; in error.

Clearly, Obamas overseas trip to Europe was not his first trip abroad.
