Ok - I just recently met a very nice girl who was here in the US on a biz trip - we engaged in unprotected sex. She's gone back and we've been in touch and I asked her about her std/hiv situation. She says she has taken the 'basic test' for stds back in Korea 6 months ago. She also expressed she didn't have her blood drawn for this. Does anyone know if the tests in Korea, without blood drawning, includes hiv?

You can get all of that done for 30,000 won at the cheaper of the two International Clinics in Itaewon, Seoul. Just exit out the Starbucks side, walk past the Starbucks another 100m until you reach the first road you come to (before the fire station). Hang a right and walk another 40m to the Goldfish bar on your right. Look directly across the street from there and you'll see a Seven 11 convenience store. On the 3rd floor above that is the International Clinic. It's older on the inside, but they send your test away to a very good lab. Results in 1 to 2 days.

I appreciate the location information, but I am in california just wanted to know how things are done in Korea, being that I know virtually nothing about how it's done there. My concern was that it's a conservative country and sex education isn't as well divulged as it is here in the US, and people would just turn a blind eye to std issues.

This is a very interesting message board to enlighten me on the cultural challenges of living in Korea and to understand where this girl is coming from.

There are services that provide free HIV tests (but not other STDs).

Sorry mate if i'm wrong but you seem to be trolling. Why not get yourself tested? Everyone that sleeps around should do it at least once a year anyway

sorry, but you should act like it, because if she did not have blood drawn, she did not have an HIV test.

So, don't have sex until you get your own HIV test back and it shows you are negative. Then, just to be safe, only have protectected sex for the next 10 years because the virus can go undetected for a decade.

So, basically, because you had unprotected sex, you should act as if you have the HIV virus.

Heterosexual sex (non-anal), even unprotected, is not a likely means of HIV transmission.

5/10,000 exposures for the male. Those are exposures with an infected partner. So consider the statistical probability your partner was infected (1 in tens of millions) plus 5/10,000 as your total risk.

I have been tested - but won't know the results until tuesday, and in the meantime I'm worried because I have primary infection type symptoms.



This is merely an attempt at alleviating my worries by ascertaining risk factors while I sit here and twiddle my thumbs.

As far as hetero statistics...she was on her period, so blood everywhere.
