|
|
Ok - I just recently met a very nice girl who was here in the US on a biz trip - we engaged in unprotected sex. She's gone back and we've been in touch and I asked her about her std/hiv situation. She says she has taken the 'basic test' for stds back in Korea 6 months ago. She also expressed she didn't have her blood drawn for this. Does anyone know if the tests in Korea, without blood drawning, includes hiv?
Just a lil worried. |

I think they need to draw blood for that.
You can get all of that done for 30,000 won at the cheaper of the two International Clinics in Itaewon, Seoul. Just exit out the Starbucks side, walk past the Starbucks another 100m until you reach the first road you come to (before the fire station). Hang a right and walk another 40m to the Goldfish bar on your right. Look directly across the street from there and you'll see a Seven 11 convenience store. On the 3rd floor above that is the International Clinic. It's older on the inside, but they send your test away to a very good lab. Results in 1 to 2 days. |

I appreciate the location information, but I am in california just wanted to know how things are done in Korea, being that I know virtually nothing about how it's done there. My concern was that it's a conservative country and sex education isn't as well divulged as it is here in the US, and people would just turn a blind eye to std issues.
This is a very interesting message board to enlighten me on the cultural challenges of living in Korea and to understand where this girl is coming from. |

There are services that provide free HIV tests (but not other STDs). |

Right - are there services that provide other tests, but don't include hiv? that's what I was wondering when she told me she did the 'basic' test, whatever that is. But I researched a bit and it seems you can get hiv tested by using some other bodyly fluid. |

Sorry mate if i'm wrong but you seem to be trolling. Why not get yourself tested? Everyone that sleeps around should do it at least once a year anyway |

You have HIV.
sorry, but you should act like it, because if she did not have blood drawn, she did not have an HIV test.
So, don't have sex until you get your own HIV test back and it shows you are negative. Then, just to be safe, only have protectected sex for the next 10 years because the virus can go undetected for a decade.
So, basically, because you had unprotected sex, you should act as if you have the HIV virus.
good luck. |

Heterosexual sex (non-anal), even unprotected, is not a likely means of HIV transmission.
http://depts.washington.edu/hivaids/images/post/post_c5_d01.gif
5/10,000 exposures for the male. Those are exposures with an infected partner. So consider the statistical probability your partner was infected (1 in tens of millions) plus 5/10,000 as your total risk.
You. Do. Not. Have. HIV. Sleep easy.
We've been scared about the disease to take the focus on junkies and homosexual men, who are the only people at real risk of infection.
And before you liberal arts undergrads jump up my ass, the WHO agrees with me:
Quote: |
Threat of world Aids pandemic among heterosexuals is over, report admits |
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/threat-of-world-aids-pandemic-among-heterosexuals-is-over-report-admits-842478.html
They say "over" in the headline, but the article is a tad more honest.
Quote: |
Dr De Cock, an epidemiologist who has spent much of his career leading the battle against the disease, said understanding of the threat posed by the virus had changed. Whereas once it was seen as a risk to populations everywhere, it was now recognised that, outside sub-Saharan Africa, it was confined to high-risk groups including men who have sex with men, injecting drug users, and sex workers and their clients.
Dr De Cock said: "It is very unlikely there will be a heterosexual epidemic in other countries. |
We had a fun thread on this in the CE forum a while back:

This is nonsense. The modern blood drop test is accurate after 3 months to 98% and after 6 months there has never been a reported and confirmed false negative. Not a single one. On earth.
Kindly, shoot whoever fed you that BS. |

I have been tested - but won't know the results until tuesday, and in the meantime I'm worried because I have primary infection type symptoms.
This is merely an attempt at alleviating my worries by ascertaining risk factors while I sit here and twiddle my thumbs.
As far as hetero statistics...she was on her period, so blood everywhere. |

What symptoms?
Your cack doesn't absorb blood or viruses. Unless you had open sores you're fine. |

Your test should be ready in 15-20 minutes.
Quote: |
The visit takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes and includes HIV / AIDS education and a finger *beep* blood test. Your blood test and all questions you are asked will be done privately. You will receive your test results the same day of your visit, approximately 10 minutes after your blood is taken. An HIV/AIDS educator will discuss your results with you privately during your visit. Currently, HIV Rapid Testing is offered at the Hayward, Oakland (Eastmont), San Rafael, San Mateo, Redwood City and Rohnert Park locations. |

This is REALLY weird - I was going to reply to this, but what I saw on the message thread was:
"The HIV antibody test is completed in one visit that takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. At the visit you will get HIV / AIDS education and a blood test. Your blood test and all questions you are asked will be done privately. In one week your results will be ready and the health center will notify you if there are any problems with your test. If your test result is negative, non reactive for HIV antibodies, you will not be contacted by the health center. No news is good news! You are always welcome to come back to the health center to review the results and to obtain a copy of them. If you decide to return for the results, an HIV/AIDS educator will discuss your results with you privately."
But what I see now that I am typing the reply, on the exact same space of that quote is:
"The visit takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes and includes HIV / AIDS education and a finger *beep* blood test. Your blood test and all questions you are asked will be done privately. What gives?? |
