Nothing special, its fish, smells like fish and tastes like fish
Korean boil it and drink the soup ( as I know it is how they usually cook it)
The first time I ate it, I thought it was dead rat...(blech). |

It's just like regular fish....except if it's prepared wrong it could kill you.
Fish is disgusting...don't eat that rot. |

I havent bothered to try it yet as anyone who's food opinion I respected said it wasnt special. That being said I know I will try it too one day.
When you do try it aim for October to March as that is the season for blowfish.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fugu
Should help get you started.
I feel it is similar to Absinthe as most of its popularity came out of it being banned. I tried a few different kinds of traditional Absinthe and other than a nice flavor (if you like Pernod or Jager) it was just really freakin potent regular booze.
Still we are all different so enjoy the experience as much as you can.
I really like many things that others find bland or terrible.
(EDIT): about the toxin
I did some research about this and its a rather interesting one. The toxin will paralyze all voluntary muscles. For most animals this just allows the fish to swim away peacefully and the predator recovers after a certain time.
In humans it is different as we evolved so that our lungs are on the voluntary switch, so we basically asphyxiate. As long as you dont share the same piece of fish with your buddy, or have a third party ready to breathe for you there is nothing to worry about.
I have always wondered if theres some kind of blowfish huffing club where they each take turns being paralyzed. ^_^v
So whos got a CPR mask and a free Friday night? |

While hallucinating is rare, personally I felt a mild buzz similar to eating a few raw shrooms. Makes everything light and colours really vivid. This was in Prague and I had a couple of shots of it, can't remember the last few hours of the night what so ever. I was told not to drink any lager with it, but the czech beer is so good I couldn't resist. |

As another poster said, usually its boiled in a soup. I have had it a couple of times - I think its delicious. its also a little pricey |

I think thats the major difference, Prague.
Mine was home made with imported and domestic wormwood, or brought with someone from Spain, France, or Germany. Really good stuff and the buzz was a little different, much cleaner than just booze, but no hallucinations, or any other effects.
I'll have to add one more stop on my Europe tour. |

I agree.
Anything else in Korea, or Asia, that falls into this catagory that one might like to try? |
