Don't forget that Americans have to pay these pesky little things called income taxes, which can account for up to 25% of your paycheck. Most people working in Korea don't pay any taxes, or if they do it's likely only the 3% Korean tax. |

Yeah, but the costs of living in California are also tremendous. Something to keep in mind. |
...and California is paying her state employees with IOUs at the moment. California sparkling.

| I have relatives who work in schools back in the midwest. College grads in education can't get employed because Califiornia teachers are fleeing the non-paying state en masse and taking all the available jobs there. California isn't paying anymore. |

California Sparkling? more like, California-on-fire. 44 celsius weather, tuition hikes at my university, tripled parking fee, angry teachers, and income/sales tax increases. |

I suppose I would consider myself an 'economic refugee' since I'm going to Korea. Jobs are ridiculously hard to find in the US. Many friends I graduated with are still not working steady jobs (after a year), or if they are its in retail or a restaurant for minimum wage. But then again, I wanted to go to Korea anyway, depression or not, so maybe I don't count |

Well, we spend $2.4 billion on the UC system, but $11 billion on the state prison system. Nice to know where all the money is going!

Don't the Chinese have a much more cost-efficient system for this sort of thing? |

Seriously? If you're american and dave's is the first place you've heard about the california budget crisis, you need to seriously start reading things other than troll-flooded ESL forums. may i suggest the atlantic's politics and business channels?
For americans (and, likely, all world citizens), what happens with california has a direct influence on us. there's no excuse to be that incredibly oblivious with such an important and potentially devastating circumstance in one of the world's largest economies. |
